hi i had two old 360s one error e78 and  one no video
I stripped them down fixed the no video one
and have jtaged it thanks to this forum.
now the problem is i have mixed up the dvd drives ( they booth have old firmwares on them)
cant even remember which firmware
the consul works with either or with out any dvd drive but wont run ixtreme games
i want to update the firmware does i matter witch drive i use

If both of the drives work then you can have either of them in your jtag  machine, you need to make sure the drive is spoofed as the correct model that is matched to your board, you can find out what version drive came with your board by putting the KV into a program called 'Keyvault modder' which will show you the type (you need your cpu key for this, or an unencrypted KV).

Naturally if both drives are different models then you will know which one came from that console by matching the drive type to that shown in KVmodder. This will mean you at least will not have to worry about spoofing the drive.

OK, unless one is an MS28 and one an MS25, there should be no problem in flashing either of them with the dvd key from your jtag!

I've just tested with an original game neither will play?.
they  will play a cd OK?
is it something I've done wrong with the jtag?

If neither will work with a retail game then it means the key from the drives do not match the key corresponding to the motherboard.

Have you used a KV file to unban your console previously?

If this is the case then your dvd key will have changed too, you can find out your key by booting into xellous (not xell which will only tell you your cpu key)
If you do not have xellous installed i would recommend having it in place of xell.

For whatever reason they are not working you just need to make sure you flash the correct version of drive, either ms25 or 28, with the dvd key that is shown in xellous or through your decrypted kv.bin file.
