Prob With 32x Rom
« on: July 10, 2004, 07:44:00 PM »

I have NeoGenesis 16.  And I'm trying to play a ROM of "WWF Raw 32X (F) [!]".  And it won't work.

I first had the game in .32x format, and I have no clue about ROM formats.  But, anyway, that ROM file wouldn't load on a Windows-based Genesis/32X emulator.  When I found this new file, I deleted the old one.  The new one is in .smd format.

So I FTP this ROM file to my XBox.  And try to load it in NeoGenesis.  And it goes to a black screen.  Nothing on it.

I've played WWF Raw on the 32X.  It's a great game.  I just want to play it on my XBox.  But I can't get it working.  NeoGenesis loads Genesis games just fine.  It's just this one that I can't get to work.

Any ideas on what I can do?  If anything?  I mean, I would figure it's a good ROM, since if it didn't play on anything then it wouldn't be released, right?

Umm...and I have no idea if my wording of the question is within the forum rules.  *paranoid*

not really helpfull but i remember this time when we couldnt get NBA Jam TE for the 32x not working,

so this guy fiddled around with a hex-editor and somehow got it to work,
ofcourse he never made an ips patch of his hack even after i told him how to create it,
so we still cant play the damn game.

like i said, not really helpfull.. but maybe its a similair problem and someone remembers.

Ok, I messed around with some Genesis tools.  Converted the .smd to .bin, and then looked at the file with a Header Editor.  Apparently, the region code is F.  Which, one would assume, is for France.  Although, I would think France would be with the Europe code.  I don't know...

But the emulator should be able to read it, right?

There also was a blank space before the Product Code.  So I took that out.  I FTPed that edited file over to the XBox (with region codes changed to UEJ), and it still would not load.

So, unless there is a more advanced hex hack with the file, I have no idea what to do.  I looked at the .smd file in a hex editor, and I couldn't find anything but gibberish.  I didn't look far enough down to see any actual text, but I'm not sure there is any.  And I don't know what to look for in all that junk.

Bleh.

I do hope there is something or someone out there to help.

Why dont you just zip your roms up? (prolly not gonna help at all whatsoever) but if you just zip the rom file itself up (not the folder) at least you'll be more organized...

well i'll tell you what xport told me when i did a topic about this game and afterburner 32x not working:

if it doesn't work on gens for pc, chances are it won't work for the xbox emu either since the xbox emu is based off gens.

as for that nbajam te 32x topic; i did the hex change and it worked fine tho it wasn't on the same line as the guy claimed but still was noticable wink.gif

Sorry VampX. Even though you told me how to create a patch, I was still confused about it, and still am. I'm a totall nOOb to creating patches. I've never done it before, and would really like to know how, instead of posting this over and over again, lol!!! But anyways, I obtained an unedited rom of NBA Jam T.E. for 32x, to make sure that the address to find is correct, and it is. So, here's what to do.

"I'm using Hex Workshop V 4.10"

Open your hex editor
Open your unzipped nba jam rom
On the far left column, scroll down until you find this address "EEC"
Once you find this address, look into the middle column
Right beside "EEC" you should see this address, "60FE"
Change "60FE" to "4E71"
Save the rom, zip it up if you want to
Load the game, and it will work :-)

Once again, sorry that there isn;t a patch for this :-(

Darn.  That doesn't work.

I find line EEC, but there is no 60FE.  What is there is...

00000EEC 26FC FF04 882C FCFF 0488 32FC FF04 88B6 FCFF 0488

I don't know if it would be the same line from game to game, either.

Hum...I wish I knew what to do  :uhh:

Okay i changed the Hex adress, which wasnt as EEC but at EE0 btw.
I'll upload a patch in a couple of minutes, but first i'm going to take a shot at WWE Raw.

edit : changing the same adress in wwe raw didnt help.

easiest way your gonna find it is by searching for 60FE and make sure all instances is checked off and it will list all 60fe's in the rom and one will be in EEC (tho its EE8 in the big window to the left)

Bleh.

Thanks for helping ^_^

Too bad the address change didn't work.  Maybe there are different values in that one?

things i tried :

1 - Changed EE0 : "60FE" to "4E71" (didnt work)

2 - Changed some names around : Diesel to Nash and Razor Ramon to Scott Hall. (didnt work)

3 - Changed all 27! apearances of 60FE to 4E71 (didnt work)
(using the automatic replacer of Hexworkshop) (changed all at the same time btw)

i'm gonna search around some more.

I think I'm catching on a little...

At the EE0 offset that I'm looking at, I find 0488.

And I found 45 instances of 60FE.

I'm looking at the .smd of the "WWF RAW 32X (F) [!]" ROM.  Different formats would probably have different hex values, right?

Ah...Just loaded my .bin conversion of the file.  The amount of instances match, now.  27 of 60FE.  But I didn't see one of those at EE0 :(

So I still don't know what I'm doing.

Any progress yet?  Or any idea on how to fix that for Raw 32X?

Please? sad.gif

Or even, is there another emulator that can play it?
