as far as your question goes, i dont see the point, after installing your game to the HDD(which can be done from a retail disc or your own legal backup) you still have to have the disc in the drive for it to launch the game(disc used can be the retail disc or backup again)

I believe he wants to know if, on an unopened xbox, he could install a retail game, make a backup and then use the backup disc to boot from the HDD.  My guess would be no.

I just tried this the screen goes black then a white screen pops ups that says something like to play game insert a game into the 360 or something like that

well it's not going to be able to read the backup no matter when it is used if it is not flashed now is it....the only part he is wanting to use the backup disc for is auth to start the game, but it requires a modded drive to bypass the auth in the first place and when you try to run a game from the HDD it insists on seeing the disc to get auth, so........
