I had a modded 360 which got the 3 rings of death. I sent it back to MS but it came back with a 360 with a 0079 DVD drive which at the time couldn't be modded. I phone the guy regularly that modded my 360 originally to find out if he can mod this one. He says it's close but not quite there.

Does anyone know where (or how far away) we are from getting a firmware dump that works for 360's with the 0079 drive?

There is a formware for the v79 Hitachi but as of right nowyou need an external programmer.

Same situation. July I bought Xbox 360 Elite with Hitachi v0079FK. I guess now they all come with new ROM Hitachi v0079FK. I am reading everywhere to find tutorial for that. Does anybody knows where I can find FULL Tutorial how to update firmware of Hitachi v0079FK, I would appreciate. Also, I got that modchip from Xecuter Blaster 360, do you think that I would need it? Thank you!

I thought there were a few people here who got NME V1.2 to work on the Hitachi 79? Or am I mistaken?

the nme v1.2 does work on the 79FK but I haven't got the chance to try on a 79FL
