So... let me understand, you're able to install any distro or only Ubuntu? It recognizes every hw of the 360 like the hdd, vga etc? So you can play divx, surf the net? I'm sorry for my stupid questions but i'd like to understand if the hacking atm, excluding the difficulty to install linux on the new kernel, is complete thanks to the OS on the console. Thanks for your help! Your job is completely amazing!

Great news, I knew it wouldn't be long before someone coded a disc so you don't have to use serial.  biggrin.gif

I'm in the same boat, exploitable kernel but a TS drive...

If anyone wants me to test anything on my box just say the word!

Yes you can install any distro that is powerpc compatible.
It dont recognize all the hardware, the sound card is still not working, and the video driver is just a framebuffer one for now so playing divx is not really possible or usefull.

So Does This Require The EU PAL disk, or The US NTSC One?
Out of curiosity is it known why the samsung can't do it currently?

Pal or Ntsc are ok.
Like we know C4eva coded a security (firmguard) for his firmware that need the enable 0800 iso to be inserted so the drive become in mode B (debug). For linux to work with the 360 drive, it must be in mode B so here is the problem. If i remember, the first's c4eva firmware dont have this security, it can be a little workaround maybe.

You need to format your 360 hdd then you can either copy a filesystem to you hdd, or use for exemple debootstrap to install linux on a hdd from another linux (gentoo live cd). Then you need another kernel (vmlinux) than will boot on hdd to be burned on a CD that contain Xell at lba20 (you can use for exemple utlraISO to replace the vmlinux from the gentoo live cd so xell remain at lba20). You can find the kernel that boot from hdd (sda1) here :

Maybe you could try with an old firmware like i said, not sure if it would work.

Questions to those who run linux on the 360:
Can you read game discs under linux (list directory, backup dvd over network)?

Is the xbox able to boot linux from USB-HDD?

With running linux on 360 do you have full access to the hardware? You just need drivers for graphic acceleration and sound then you can fully use the power of the 360?

You cant read the game disc directory etc but you can make a raw copy of the DVD (so via network too).
I can already boot from usb-hdd but it seems that the usb driver is not really stable for now with usb disk, so it sometimes hang.
Last question already answered.

I have 4532 kernal on flashed hitachi drive.  I cant wait to try this this weekend!  So if i am understanding linuix will be install on the hd?  then when I like remove the hd she is a normal 360?  can someone please clarify this?

No, linux is not installed at all its why it's named a live cd.

Be carefull : if you install linux on your hdd, you'll need to format it to ext3, and the drive wont be recognized anymore by the 360.
