How To Prevent 4552 Dashboard Update
« on: March 20, 2007, 05:58:00 PM »

I currently have a XBOX 360 with a 4532 Dashboard.

Since information was released on the Hypervisor exploit I have not connected to Live
I play all my games offline and store my achievements on my memory card.
I then connect to live on another XBOX 360 with a 4552 Dashboard to get my profile updated.

But tonight I got my copy of GRAW 2 and the first thing that popped up when I put my disk in the drive was that I required a mandatory update off the disk to continue playing the game.....

Will GRAW2 update me to 4552?

Is there a list of things we should do to preserve 4532 and other exploitable dashboards
(If not, I suggest we start one........)

Are we fighting the inevitable and we will eventually give in and update our 360s to play the blockbuster games we originally bought our console for?

Right now I have a expensive game I am too scared to play because I may miss out on some exciting hombrew project or MAME conversion.

Anyone know what will hapen if I click update?

Well there's a 50% chance that you would end up screwed.

There's only 2 kernel versions ahead of 4532:

4548 (still includes the exploit)

-and-

4552 (dun dun dunn)

Seeing as I haven't played much 360 in the past year or so, I wouldn't be able to tell you exactly what version GRAW2 would bring you. Though I'm 99% sure that it would be 4552.

It's really up to what you want your 360 to do.

I have had a look around and I am not sure one exists but I will ask the question anyway.
Is there a method of disabling EFUSE on the 360?

2 other questions:-
  • If I have a HDD connected to a 360 thats at 4552 is it safe to connect that HDD to a lower revision 360?
  • Does the backward compatibility update for XBOX games contain the Dashboard update?

So far I have found :-
  1. Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter 2

You can disable the eFuse power supply by removing resistor R6T3 on the bottom of your mobo, under where the cpu heatsink is.  Kernel 4552 works with no efuse blown but this may not be the case when a newer kernel comes out.

Even if you remove the resistor it is still very difficult to downgrade back to the exploitable kernel.  (You have to remove the flashrom and use an external programmer)

The only way to keep a system at 4532 is not play newer games, do not go on live and do not connect a hard dirve that has been used on a 4552 console.

Sounds like you are doing the right things... there is not much more you can do.

Backwards compatability updates do not adjust the kernel.

If you connect the 360 hd to a pc and delete the sysupdate folder it wont update (IMG:style_emoticons/default/wink.gif)

But be sure to that before connecting a "4552 hd" in an older box....

I think it does actually.

They'll typically use any service to also add 'security'.

I may be mistaken but I remember bc updates installing kernel/dash updates.

Also how do you connect a 360 HD to a pc? I'm assuming it requires a specialized adapter?

I have to see that guide.

How did you ever get that 'tarded site to WORK?

I can't even so much as REGISTER. The site acts GW Bush mental for me.

It takes everything else, but red flags my e-mail address for no reason.

Then I try my girlfriend's email and it green-lights, but when I press enter, it errors out with the following vague gibberish:

IPB WARNING [2] mysql_connect() [function.mysql-connect]: Access denied for user: 'saves360_admin@localhost' (Using password: YES) (Line: 1946 of /sources/action_public/register.php)

Seriously, what could be causing such a dumb glitch?

And how did you avoid it and register?

Happened to me too.
Registering crashes at some later step.
However the account is actually created.
Just click the link "lost your password?" and set your password again.

So, now we can browse the posts, but I can't find any list of games giving the upgrade attached to it.

Thanks for all the responses guys,

My workaround on the HDD issue is to use a memory card on between the 2 360s to record my achievements and savegames.

GRAW 2 is the only game in my collection that has the issue so far. (although I am sure there are more)

I was wondering -
I have 2 Ubsoft games - Graw 2 and Rainbow Six Vegas
Both have the sysupdate folder but the one in Rainbow 6 has a empty update file containing zeros
Is it possible to zero the update file in Graw2 so that it does not update?
Would zeroing and keeping the file the same size work when I rebuild iso.
Is editing only limited to texture files as with the king king exploit?

Thanks in advance....
