Unlocking Live Arcade Games
« on: October 15, 2006, 05:43:00 PM »

Over the past year, I've bought a bunch of Live Arcade games.  3 weeks ago, my 360 died.  A friend of mine at a game shop took my system and replaced it with a used system at no cost.

Now, all of my Live Arcade games show up as trial versions again, unless I connect to Live, which makes them the full versions for the time I'm connected.  I'm moving soon, and don't plan on having an internet connection for awhile.

I've called M$, and they tell me they can't help me since the serial on my old 360 was linked to my Live Arcade games, and that I should have sent it to them to refurbish (for God knows how much $$).  No reimbursement, no nothing.

So my question is:  Is there any way I can take back what's rightfully mine and unlock the "trial" versions I have on my 360?

I would call them back and talk to someone else...

Tell them you had an extended warranty from the place you bought it from and they replaced the whole unit.

As long as they see you purcahsed the games they should give you codes to downloadthem again.

(BTW: You could have kept your hard drive and avoided this problem)

No it wouldn't have.  The games are linked the the xbox's serial number, not the harddrive.

Oh, I kept the hard drive, it's the serial # that's the issue.  And I have no warranty.  I talked to two different people and still nothing.  They wanted me to fax them the info of the person who originally had the used system (the one Gamestop gave me), because it's still registered under that info.

I've decided to learn from this and only re-buy one of the Arcade games I own, and no more after that, ever.  I understand M$ is trying to fight piracy, but it's not made very clear that if your system goes kaput, you HAVE to ship it back to M$.  Because if you don't, you're screwed, basically.

ok i used to work for ms tech support when it first came out
they didnt screw you the reason you only have those trails is becuse its not only link to your profile but also your console serial number so what you do is call tech and tell them what happen an they give you a code to get those back happenes all the time

Seriously they give you the codes?

I have about 4 games from my old xbox 360 that need to connect to live on my new xbox due to licence's being stored on my broken xbox.

I'll call M$ at the weekend.

so far i am a 1 time rod victim or survivor? anyway i had noticed the same problem with my arcade games reverting to trial version when i would disconect from the internet.

been on other forums but they suggested nothing could be done and that i was simply a victim of some digital rights act.

glad i found the xbox scene., will call ms and ask for my codes.

thnx for the 411
cheers.

This all seems really weird to me.  I recently purchased a new 360 just to get the HDMI capabilities.  I plugged in my old hard drive with all my arcade games on it and they work perfectly fine.  I also bought a 120gb hdd later and transferred everything over to that.  Still everything works fine.  Take your hard drive to a friends house and try it out on their xbox.  See what happens, then you will know if it is specifically the 360 that you own.

This is more then likely because you are connecting to Xbox Live with the account your purchased the games with...

NOW, for everyone else. You can get your arcade games re-signed for your new 360. But if you have a lot of arcade games (I have about 30+ ... my post RRoD xbox is on it's way back from texas right now) it'll take a bit of time.....

(From the major nelson podcast ... 2 episodes ago. I haven't tested yet, but i'm sure it works. Sorry if i get anything off, just typing as I'm listening, No show notes.)...

Sign into live with the original gamer tag that you bought the content with, go to Xbox Live Market Place, Go to Account Management, then "Download History". Then you can then select "Download Again", and then it should re-sign for your new console.

Unfortunately, it sounds like you need to do this for EACH title, but it's better then nothing I suppose.

Have fun kids.
