After running a backup of dead rising, it gives me a message that my Xbox needs updating.
would you like to do so?

yes/no...

ass far as I did my firmware I'm not so happy to do so,
have you guys tried this, is this safe?

If you hack your firmware you should be prepared for any/if any consequence of that.
If you need to use the toilet everytime there is an update then you should never have hacked the firmware.

Maybe you should go back to your original firmware, buy the game, perform the update, and try it again once you've bought the game.

That has happened on several of my backups. I went ahead and updated. No ill effects noted, (Although I may be in MS's list of those to ban now because I have tried it out on live.

alright I did the update, and it all went well.
I have not been on Live, and i'm not planning to go on live either..

maybe it's just crazy but I believe my fans are running faster, maybe this is for dead rising...?
read a lot that this game can crash your xbox as result of heat problem...

I don't know, but it works anyway

That was my first thought too

, but it could be that there is a Dashboard update on the Dead Rising DVD media. Oblivion has one.

Ive updated dead rising and got an unreadable disc message (IMG:style_emoticons/default/dry.gif)
its the first game i have test since dvd rom has been flashed so its not look too good.
By the way where do the updates go are they on my HDD?

Did you try running the game first without the update to make sure you burned the disc and flashed the drive correctly? No, the updates are stored in the matter/anti-matter containment field that surrounds the system.

I was NOT on live, my xbox is not on my network, and will never be I guess :-)
I had to update (from the DVD) in order to play the game, answering no to the update question would return me to my dashboard....

still everything works fine.
I don't think they are allowed, and maybe it's also unpossible to check the firmware and if it's hacked, then "brick" the xbox or so....

Yeah. Same as Oblivion. The game mandates a minimum OS Dashboard version, and the media carries the required Dashboard updater.

i have dead rising... my 360 isnt modded yet, and so far it hasnt asked to update my 360.. so maybe your burnt disc is telling the 360 something else or whatnot around about way...

You'll only get prompted to perform the Dashboard update if you're currently running an older Dash.

If you've

been on XBOX!Live,
used a recent OXM magazine cover disk,
or played other recent game titles,

your Dashboard would have already been updated.
