It's because the 360 was only looking for the xex file. That xex file is signed. The 360 ignored the xbe file you put in there.

I'm pretty sure the 360 is able to read cdr's dvdr's etc... It's the security signature that matters when it comes to running system files.

So in theory if you could figure out how to use the signature signing and get ahold of a copiler then you could in thoery make a boot disk?

Wouldn't it be possible to use the www.free60.org info on the .xex file format, to cut the signature from the signed .xex to an unsigned .xex?

Then, we could have an easy way into the system.
Seems like basic hexxing to me.....

only problem is those xex files arent just signature signed. theyre checksumed too.

so if u just pasted the signature onto a new file,  the checksum will fail.

http://en.wikipedia....-key_encryption

That link should explain exactly why you can't just re-use a digital signature. There should be a sticky about RSA-2048, public key encryption and keypair theory. It would stop all these idiotic (yes, I said idiotic) posts about copying signatures.

Agreed...people assume one xbe/xex signature is good for every xbe/xex.  What would be the point in that.

Yep. The signature is like a CRC or a SHA-1 value. It is only valid for the file it was calculated for, and cannot help you derive the private key.
