What Up With The Lack Of New Emulators On The Box?
« on: April 02, 2004, 06:44:00 AM »

Is it just me, or has there been a significant drop in emulator releases/updates this year for the xbox? I have quite a few emulators on my xbox that could use an update for various reasons (new emulator sources, bugs that need fixing, stuff that could be added e.t.c). And this applies to other homebrew xbox software as well, I'm just a huge fan of emulators. Are developers just taking a break, working on something new, or worse, losing interest  :( ? Hopefully, not the latter. Don't get me wrong, the homebrew xbox software I got now is wonderfull, and thanks/props go out to the developers for that. But I still think stuff can be updated and/or changed. It was so exciting to visit xbox-scene almost everyday to find new/updated software, usually an emulator  :D . Now im not saying developers should release stuff all the time, but I also hope they don't just let their projects die. The only thing Ive been downloading new for my xbox now is cvs builds of xbmc. I havent noticed much other new stuff. Anyways, I think im rambling/ranting. So Good day, and have a great weekend everybody :).

But I would like to see a few updates too on some of the Emulators I have Like the PSX one and Gun support and Virtual Memory for mae would be awesome :)

But maybe they have ported all they can ?

Or maybe they are just too busy playing all the great Xbox games coming out lately  :D

There is no gun support in the original PCSX.

Virtual Memory would not improve pcsxbox that much (if at all).

There are lull's in everything guys, and you've got to realize this scene is almost 3 years old now. You cant expect the spree of releases like you used to have. Yes, alot of people are just taking breaks and enjoying their free time...i feel the same as i usually dont spend more than 15 minutes a day on my pc.

Most of Xports emus are as perfect as they can be and don't require updating. The (hopefully still upcoming) GUI for DOSXbox being the only thing that leaps to mind.

But there's still MAMEoX, Surreal, and whole load of half-finished lantus projects that with any luck will have significant updates eventually.  :P

I don't know about that. I seem to remember a thread that had a list of emulators (open-source i believe) that have not been ported to the xbox yet.

Ha ha, maybe. There have been some pretty good games released this year.

Thats what I thought was happening. Good things eventually come to an end. Im not saying the scene is dying, but I think it is "slowing down" a bit.

Xport's emulators are pretty much perfect, but they can still be updated when the pc emulators get updated sources (such as fce ultra, I think there have been two new updates of that emulator on the pc that have not been ported)

Carcharius, that's the kind of stuff I like to hear  :D . Sounds like you have been working inconspicuously on something  ;) . Ha ha.

Yeah I guess some things could be updated in the current emulators, but I'm pretty happy with how everything works. I guess one of the main reasons we dont see new releases all the time is cause there's not much left to emulate.

Unless of course your a fan of the WonderGoose 84 Turbo (Blue Donkey Version), you know, some weird system no ones heard of but you and about three other people worldwide.

Hehe depends. But for example, a release of a Spectrum emulator this days and things may go "wild" again :P

Iriez, but maybe on a new PSX Emu for Xbox, gun support could be added ;)

I do like the one on the Xbox, but I think there are a lot better ones out there. And hopefully one day if they get Virtual Memory working good on the Xbox. This might help run certain Emulators better , maybe ?

And I hope they get gun support working for Mame before the end of the Xbox's life. Because it would be the ultimate machine, if I could play Point Blank perfectly on the Xbox.

I think I would keep Xbox for life then  :D

they added gun feature in the last release of mame tho its far from perfect.

theres a new version of the ps1 emu so xport should be working on a new port :D
tho i highly doubt it will feature the gun options.

i personaly can't wait till the next fbax is out B)  since kawa-x is no more :(

What about that PSX Emulator called ePSXe. I reckon that is the best PSX Emulator around.

I wish someone could port this to Xbox. Because on my PC, it runs nearly every game perfect.

Don't get your hopes up. It seems lantus is great at starting excellent projects but when it comes to updating them...

Me neither, I just want different button configs for each game and the time lock feature or whatever so I can play dramatic battle without having to rely on KawaX.

LikkleBaer, don't say it, just don't, it would be the worst thing in the world if FBAx didn't get those small updates, let alone Psikyo drivers. So let's all hope/pray/etc that it does happen.

mmm... Lantus.

No, I am NOT a stalker.

And using a message board that a certain developer uses does not violate any restraining orders which may or may not be against me.

*runs away*
