Well hes not completly full of shiot because Ive done some heavy scanning on my box and seen port 21 come open a couple of times... really random to tell you the truth but ive never seen it prompt a login box if you try to ftp in... you just get can not connect.... I can answer the mac persons question though... depending on your settings tiger will bring up the username and password window even if it cant make a complete connection to that system.. as long as that ip is real and is active it will say that anyways but would never let you connect.  Just figured id throw my .02 in the well

Why doesnt someone do us a favor and run ethereal or tcpdump and log a live login/logout session - MCE connection start to finish (power on, connect, stream) etc so that we can get some useful data out of the discussion instead of a bunch of people pointing ftp clients at the damned thing and other varyingly worthless activities.

Post the dumps and let us start taking a look at what the actual communications processes look like.

I dont have a 360 or I'd be glad to do so.

Well.... I just tried FTP'ing my 360 with FlashFXP and I have seemed to get a temporary connection.... heres the log...

CODE
WinSock 2.0 -- OpenSSL 0.9.7g 11 Apr 2005
[R] Connecting to 192.168.0.9 -> IP=192.168.0.9 PORT=21
[R] Connected to 192.168.0.9
[R] Connection failed (Connection lost)

I was reading some of the replies and it seemed like some of you couldn't get connected at all so I do not know what this means...

Just to settle this whole little debacle that we got goin here:

THERE IS NOT, AS OF WEDNESDAY MARCH 3 2006 (I live in Western Australia), ANY FORM OF LOCAL AREA NETWORK COMPATIBLE FILE TRANSFER PROTOCOL SERVER BUILT INTO THE RETAIL XBOX 360 UNITS.

Until this falacy of being able to connect via ftp to the 360 WITHOUT the use of "other" software (Such as Connect360, Transcode360 etc) is proven and verified by reliable sources, attempting to do so is pointless.

(Oh, and just to ensure that certain "mac bashers" are put in their place:
 1 - Macs are NOWHERE NEAR as buggy as Windows machines; Just spend a few mins watching the processess performed at the Unix core level!

 2 - OFFICIAL ANNOUNCEMENT: Anything PCs can do, Macs can do BETTER!

the easyiest way to scan and see the MS ips, and ports, maybe this will help, using windows xp, bridge your two ethernet ports, one for internet one for xbox. Then use commview to monitor all activity, just dont forget to close AIM or any of your internet programs. That will save some confusion.  pop.gif if this helps any..
