Possible To Mod Without Banning?
« on: June 04, 2009, 03:07:00 PM »

I understand that modding your 360 typically involves flashing the firmware on your 360's hard drive or using a chip. Does a chip exist that allows you to have both the modified firmware and the original firmware available to you? An example of what I mean is, you could use the modded firmware to play GTA4 or something, then use the normal firmware to play another game online, and ideally run no risk of having your console banned.

You don't mod the hdd you mod the disc drive, there is no real need to have two firmwares on there, its not going to make it much safer. But if you decide to mod chip it, you can make it so it cannot connect to xbox live when you play a copy.

chipping is a waste of money and hassle

flashing the dvd drive is best and more secure, what do you do when you need to upgrade the chip ?? replace it

unsolder and resolder etc hassle

flash flash flash

having chipped my 1st xb i would'nt bother again

Modchips for the Xbox 360 DVD drives are scam in my opionion, since the firmware for them all suck and are unsecure compared to ixtreme. I another word, you are PAYING microsoft to ban you.

The only way you can be banned is if you dont make yours game stealthed or if microsofts scans detect your xbox but if all your games are stealthed that likely wont happen

There's always a possibility of getting banned if you modify your console. The only way to 100% avoid a ban is using a 2e console.

This isn't really true, you should be familiar with what you are telling this person before you post it.
I've been running NME 2.0 on my 79fk drive for over 2 yrs now, still no ban. And there have been 2 that im aware of since the chip was installed into the console.
This chip runs backup copies of games, the firmware remains intact and the chip deactivates itself when an original game is in the drive. If people have been banned from live and are using the NME 2.0 i've still to come across someone that was NOT playing burns online. As long as you make sure you are not connected to live when the game goes in your drive you will be fine.
it does however take take an experienced soldering hand to get the chip installed as someone who has never done something of this nature probably wants to get it done by someone else due to the traces being so small

Its possible to not mod your xbox and not be banned...

or just buy another 360 for offline play with backups and don't distribute "modified" game saves with your console Id still on them to get achievements, otherwise M$ if they find out that it is your console can, in a patch, can also render your xbox from saving any content on your hard drive or memcard(I think)
EDIT: NVM it just means that your console's saves will never be able to work on another 360 ever again, so if you are really far on one game and get rrod you will not be able to make it work on another 360.
