Maximus 79 Passkey Tsop Clip Does It Exist
« on: July 27, 2008, 07:10:00 AM »

Hi I was wondering is there a clip for the TSOP chip that has an FFC header built into it.I know that probably sounds weird to ask,but was just wondering.I think it would be easier to use a clip instead of the header and FFC connector.I tried using the header and I keep getting a bridge when installing it.It doesn't hurt to ask,but I'm sure it can be done and removing the black epoxy is a breeze for me so I'm not really worried about doing the extra work to fit a clip. Thanks in advance by the way and I would love to get this chip fitted, but am looking for alternatives.

If a clip was made for the TSOP32 chip how many people would want to use a clip instead of soldering to the fine pads meaning only one wire installs for chips such as Maximus 79 Passkey or less wires for chips that require soldering directly to the fine pads that lead to the TSOP chip.I'm capable of getting clips made if it interest anyone, but the catch is I will need to make a bunch if it is produced.

I imagine if this had existed a while ago, interest would have been very high... as it is you might have only a few people that would be interested.  I am not sure how many people with 79s are still out there...  I know I have one that I have left alone for now... so it is an interesting concept to me but I can solder pretty well so it might just be a novelty for me to check out...

Thanks for the feedback on the subject, and it might be a good idea to wait before jumping into making a bunch of clips for this type of drive.I figure it would hold some interest to some people that are having problems with soldering to the fine pads of the TSOP chip, but as you both mentioned the 79 drives are starting to become obsolete with Lite-On drives appearing.I would like to make a batch and see how well it does, but I'm also unaware of how many 79 drives are in circulation.
