Soldering
« on: January 30, 2008, 08:29:00 PM »

Well I've installed a WiiKey before and that was a bit of a pain, but now I need to install a 79 passkey and the damn connectors are like microscopic, Now I have a desk magnifying glass/lamp and a good Weller soldering iron with either a 1mm or 0.5mm (they look the same in my opinion) but are there guides which would prepare me for installing a passkey or anything else that requires such precise soldering?

Also for removing black epoxy I highly recommend paint stripper (http://www.swingpaints.com/1806.htm) as you basically just apply a drop, let it sit for an hour or two and scrape off the mush of the epoxy and reapply if necessary.

I made a post similar to this a while ago and it got deleted for some reason.  I've been looking for tips for soldering etc but I can't find anything.  I am looking for a good soldering iron that I can hold closer to the tip aswell, but I can't find any.  I ended up grinding the tip of my soldering iron to make things a little easier, but that's the only advantage I have.  Somehow I get the Cut leg mods on wii's done though.

Do some D2Ckey installs, you'll be over-qualified for a passkey.
