How do you know it is the e64 error?

I get a 1001 error, with 1 red light,


I removed chip, console works fine.  I soldered again, same error.

I checked, double checked everything.


I am guessing that somehow the console is monitoring voltage usage, and disabling the console if it detects more power being used than what was orignally intended.  Is this a new deterrant that microsoft is implementing?

Can anyone else help us??

I am getting E65 error.

Who has had success with the NME 2.0 and the 79fl drives?  I am asking because I wanted to just do the chip but if that many people are having problems I may just have to go with the passkey.

I have talked with the site where I bought the chip and they will be replacing it, although their thoughts are something is wrong with the install and not the chip.
My plan is to leave all the wires currently soldered to the DVD board and just swap the wires on the NME end to the new chip once I receive it. Figure if it is a defective chip the odds of getting 2 in a row would be pretty slim.

I'll let you guys know how I make out once the replacement arrives.

I'm also pretty interested as to whether anyone's gotten the NME v2 chip working on the 79FL drive. I know the install isn't for the novice but there must be some "professional" installers out there who have tried.
Could it be a problem with the install diagrams on the NME site?

Well, after a huge blow to the soldering ego I again checked my wiring a 4th time and low and behold the 5v wire was not connected to the correct point. Yeah, you'd think the big + sign next to it would have tipped me off.  My problem turned out to be that I was connecting to the power all the way at the end of the dvd board where there is a second + sign.

Booted up the Xbox, no more error...loaded a back up Xbox1 game and the 360 recognized it...said I needed to connect a hard drive in order to play the Xbox1 game. Figure the NME must be working for it to recognize the Xbox1 back up.

Now I'm off to try and make my first Xbox360 back up.

My advice to everyone else trying the NME on the 79fl drive is to just have patience, double and triple check your wire placement...spend the extra $15 and get a magnifying glass...use a continuity tester to check for bridged traces and wires at both the dvd board and chip.

And yes, it looks as though the NME v2 does work on the 79fl drive, will know for sure by tomorrow night once I grab some dual layer disc's.

Good!  I am glad yours is working.  Does your installation look like mine?  Do you see any differences?

Different drive so the wires would be to different points on the dvd drive board.
The Hitachi uses chip points A-I to the pads of the SST chip. Then M, 5v and ground. Make sure your using the correct 5v power source, my problem. I also used a different ground point then the NME install photos since the point used in the photos was not on my dvd board.

Can't tell much from looking at your photos, only the 1st 360 I've had apart. I could only suggest using a tester to check for continuity between the dvd board and your chip and between the points soldered for a crossed wire or trace.
