Need Help With Nme V2.0 Chip Install
« on: December 04, 2007, 06:51:00 PM »

Like alot of others here I chipped my two origional xboxs and my brothers. I just got my first 360(Elite) a few weeks ago and wound up with a Hitachi 79FL Drive(Model:GDR-3120L). Since my only options were get a Passkey or Chip I decided to spend a little more & get a NME V2.0. Everything was going fine till I realized the GND connection point shown in the pics on the Underdog website Hitachi drive install page wasn't in the same place on my drives board.  (IMG:style_emoticons/default/huh.gif)  According to the instructions the GND point should be just to the left of the point on my board marked TP807(if board is oriented same way as in the install pic) but there is not a point in that area. If anyone has installed a NME V2.0 on one of these apparently newer Hitachi 79FL Drive boards I would really appriciate it if you could tell me where to connect the GND wire. I think the boards version is JD5X-1 2006/03/08Thanks in advance for any advice.

I have a 360 arcade, and I'm pretty sure its the new board.  I would also like to know where the ground is located.

Um i don't have one but for anyone wondering where the ground is the ground is the metal casing on the 360 so any ground point will work

hellawacked is right, the case is grounded, so if you are looking for a ground point on the board itself you can do a resistance test with a DMM (digital multimeter) between the case and random easy solder points on the board.  When you get a resistance of 0 ( or very very close to it) that means that essentially that point (node) is the same point as the case which is the same node as ground. So you can then solder to that point on the board, or somehow solder to the metal case if you want.

I'm not sure about the networking disable point Nabatson, haven't gotten that far yet. I was really close to being in over my head (& skillz!) with this Nme V2.0. I learned how to repair broken traces tho!  biggrin.gif  Thanks Edbtz123, I had blown the fuse in my multimeter (like i'm really the one who should be screwing around with trying to install this chip  huh.gif ) so I just found a - point that was obviously grounded to the drive case by a screw & hooked to that. Well, the xbox is back together and the dvd drive still works so at least I didn't kill it. Now i just gotta get burning & test the chip. Thanks again for the replies.

Success!!!... I made 4 coasters before I got it right (bitsetting & image size was wrong for NME) but it finally worked  biggrin.gif Now I can try to figure out how to do the networking disable point. Hellawacked & Edbtz123 thanks again for the advice... XBOX-SCENE ROCKS!

Ya, for the 79fl board, on the corner of the board just up above the area you need to solder all
the wires is a screw hole. Around that screw hole looks like a star made of solder.

That's your alternate ground point. Solder your ground to one of the star points.
Actually, it's a better ground point than in the diagrams I have seen.
