Ixtreme 1.2

I'm having someone mod my 360 with ixtreme 1.2 on a hitachi 78. I heard that iXtreme doesn't require bitsetting and burning the game to DVD-ROM and will still read it, is this true?  I don't want to buy a specific DVD writer just so I can bitset if I can help it.
