Hitachi 0079fl, Help Please ^_^
« on: August 30, 2007, 06:14:00 PM »

I recently anticipated that when I bought my xbox 360 elite (1day ago now, late release for Australia) that what ever driver I go my xeno 360 would cover it, how ever once I open it up and was reading to solder away that wasn't the case, I had not read of the new 79 drives >.>

Basically I'm wondering, is it possible to install the Xeno 360 mod chip on a 79FL? Because I have already purchased this chip and would prefer not to have to buy another one >.> If so, could someone supply me with a diagram please?

If not, is it possible to install the NME v1.2 on the 79FL? Remember it's FL not FK, not sure how much of a difference this makes, probably not much lol.

And if I can install the NME V1.2 on the 79FL do I just use team underdog's normal 1.2 diagram on their site?

And do I completely remove the 470 coil or do I still need to re-solder it to the +5v terminal and then bridge where the coil was with solder?

I cant say 100% that it will work on a 79fl, but that is only because I haven't installed on one before.  I mean if you are sure handed with a soldering iron it wouldn't hurt to try, just install using the hitachi diagram for NME v1.2.  Im sure it would work though because one of the features of the NME v1.2 is prevention of future hitachi firmwares that would prevent it from working.

Yes, remove the 470 coil and bridge gap with solder.

Remove as in unsolder, discard and bridge with solder or as in unsolder, solder to +5v then bridge with solder?

Alright thankyou very much (IMG:style_emoticons/default/happy.gif) yeah I'm pretty steady and good with a soldering iron, I worked for a few years at Queensland Motorway and I was doing soldering a fair bit there, plus I started soldering random gadgets from the age of about 7/8 lol.

Wish the Xeno 360 would work on it so I wouldn't have to buy another chip >.>

Maybe when I get my halo 3 limited edition console in another 20 days it will have a Xeno 360 compaitable dvd drive it it and I'll chip it :S Either that or mod my step brother's xbox 360 and charge him xD

yea just remove 470 completely and connect the two points left over with solder.  basically, just do what is on www.team-underdog.com except dont solder the coil back on like they did, just bridge the gap with solder.

I am thinking of trying to install a xeno on a 79fl..being a clone of the nme v1.2 it shouldnt be that hard, just have to make sure the points on the xeno are the same in respect to the nme v1.2

Ok guys, your post answerd my questions and concearns about modding a 360 with a 79FL. I just read the features for the NME V1.2 and seems all is ok with the universe again. After reading all 8 pages over at the DVD Firmware forum about the 79FL, I was getting petty discouraged.

But what wasn't answered is my question regarding stealth. Is it a required practice to stealth all back ups or was that needed based on specific firmwares and methods. So since I wont need to spoof my 79Fl thanx to the NME is stealthing no longer a concearn for me? Thanx a mill in advance.

^^ Dude somebody just said NME 1.2 was compatible with 79FL! But not sure what you mean by "is it compatible with the 79"? Does that mean Xeno or NME1.2. And as I have stated yes somebody said they installed on a 79 and backups play.

Yea, that was me lol.  I have installed on a 79FK and it worked (the nme v1.2) and someone else in this topic has installed on a 79FL and it works (again, nme v1.2).  I just haven't gotten around to trying a Xeno 360 yet on the 79FL or FK

I installed the NME 1.2 on my 79FK successfuly with a few non-installation related issues (eg. Media and Burner) and had it working for 3 months, but I can't get any backups to successfuly boot on my new 79FL using the same chip and same backups that were working on the 79FK.
  • Tweaked the POT to many different levels (3.15, 2.98, 2.8, 2.7) and still getting Unplayable Disc, and Open Tray errors.
  • Verified solder points using multimeter.
  • Have not tried the Open Tray Fix (eg. adding 1mm of plastic to switch point)
