Nme 1.2 Worked Great For 2 Weeks Now No Go.
« on: August 24, 2007, 01:32:00 PM »

ok, i have a NME 1.2 on a samsung drive. installed using NME guide. soldered wire on to put into samsung mode, did NOT do anything to the 470 resister.after install all was well, all backups and orig worked great. now, all of a sudden backups wont work.tried optional ground,(on the side of the bracket where the power plugs in) and also removed the 470 resister and bridged the gap with solder, same thing.backups keep coming back as unreadable disk. origs work fine. its almost like the chip is not turning on. hmmm.

You may have a bad laser.  Either tweak the pot, or just get a new one on ebay for about $15-$20.

So you are sure all your points are good though?  I know there is one point on the goes on the back of the dvd board that used to give me trouble because if it wasn't properly cleaned off with a razor and alcohol it wouldn't stay soldered and wouldn't give a good connection.

Also try maybe insulating your points if you haven't already.  Either electrical tape or hot glue works fine.

YES, the optional wires give problems!  Remove them immediately!  The problem is that the LED function wire still gives power to the chip and sometimes wont allow for proper change of backup and non backup mode.

Yea you can use any 5 volt point in the xbox 360.  Go here for a list of alternate voltage points, with pictures.

I had a similiar problem first some backups would play and newer ones would not. Then only originals would play all this happened within a 2 hr span. I had a spare samsung drive witch I just swapped boards with and all work again. Probably a bad laser.

I would have just got a new laser first before doing anything else.

just an update. i sent the chip back for testing, dont know if they tested or not but they sent me back , what they called, a chipmod 1.2, i think its a NME 1.1, thats what it said on package it came in.  anyway, took me 5 mins to put in, all the points are the same and wires were left in box attached. first backup i tried, and everyone since work perfect. my conclusion is my first NME chip went bad.
