Hey everyone,

I just finished installing my nme v1.2 on my 360 with samsung drive.  I have children that wreck games, so I wanted to be able to back them up.  After installing the chip, I used my sh-d162c drive to extract my game, and followed the rest of the instructions on NME's website to finish the backup.  Upon attempting to play the real version of the game, I had no troubles.  Then, upon trying to play the backup, I got the "please insert into 360 console" error.  

I checked all my connections, and also tried to move the coil (tried with coil normal, with coil on +5, and with no coil).  I had the same result in all cases.  I assume that it is the method I am using to make my backup.  Also, I noticed in a forum a mention of the "book" settings in imgburn, and mine do not match up.  I am using an LG external DL dvd burner, with verbatim dvd+r dl discs.  Any tips would be greatly appreciated.  I feel like I am so close to having a working setup.  Thanks.

Also, I wanted to mention that I am using the four points listed in the "noob guide" for the chip.  These are the two pins on the IC, and the +5V and Ground points on the board to the right of the IC.  Thanks.

Ok, let me ask you this, did you try powering on the system and then inserting a backup first?  Because since you removed the coil, if you put an original in first, the chip will stay in original game mode (basically off), and won't go back to normal unless you power on and off again.

What program did you use to extract your game?  I am assuming it was Schtrom 3.1 right? I take it that you followed everything on the NME sight tho right?  Didnt forget any steps like converting the image to NME format, or setting the layer break in IMGburn?

Also, did you remember to set the NME chip to Samsung mode?  You do this by soldering a small wire from point B on the chip to GND.

Yes, I tried all of those.  I tried starting the system with a backup in, putting a backup in after starting, putting an original in, followed by a backup, and so on.  Also, I used the exact instructions from team underdog, and completed all steps (schtrom, nme associator, imgburn).  Also, I put the chip in samsung mode.  Currently, I have the coil back in its original position, and am waiting for more tips to continue.  Any tips are greatly appreciated.

Still no useful tips, but I had another question.  What position of the coil provides my best chance of getting it to work.  At least I can put the coil in this position, and try to take care of any other possible issues.  Thanks.

It would be best to just remove the coil and bridge with solder.  The last 2 NME v1.2 installs I did, they did not work at all with the 470 coil attached.  But the second I removed them, backups & originals played flawlessly.

Anyway, after you remove the coil again and bridge with solder, how about trying an alternate ground point?  Instead of the recommended ground from team underdog (if you used that one) how about trying the one next to the dvd power cable plug in.  (IMG:http://img404.imageshack.us/img404/1648/nmejpgqk5.jpg)


Also, did you remember to insulate all of your solder points with either electrical tape or hot glue?  You could be shorting out the NME chip if the solder points touch the dvd case.

thanks for the tips, they were great for sure.  I will try the alternate ground point, remove the coil, and insulate my points.  I didnt want to insulate the points right away, because I was worried about having to remove a wire or something.  I figured if I shorted the board, I would know right away.  I partially black taped them, but thats all.  I will try that too.

As far as burning goes, are their any additional settings I need to set besides what Team Underdog says?  Thanks.

Cheers mate.  Alternate Ground worked great.  I appreciate all the help.  No coil needed either, for anyone with a similar problem.  Off to protect my investment from my "children of the corn" hahah.

Yah, occasionally I have to start the system a few times to get it to recognize my backups, but it is no big deal.  I may add a bit of solder to my connections and tape off the solder joints, or maybe add a thicker wire for the ground.  But yah, all is working well with the new ground point.  Gotta get a new dvd burner (or hope LG will send me one under warranty) because mine fried yesterday.  Froze in the middle of a burn.  Thanks again.

Wow...fried? Was there a power surge or was it just old?

Just old, but not that old actually.  Still within the 1 year warranty, meaning I get a new one for free (or refurb).

hmm..maybe its just the brand LG.  I dont know if they are good or not, but to me less than 1 year old is way too soon for a drive to be breaking through normal usage.
