Xbox 360 Modchip....latest And Greatest?
« on: August 20, 2007, 12:21:00 PM »

Hey all, I've been out of the xbox modding scene for awhile now.  Hell, my original xbox still has the 19 point enigma chip install.  (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif)  I'm in the market for a chip that will force the internet connection to be automatically disabled anytime the chip functions to the point where it could be detected by live.  Which chip should i get to work with the 5.2 extreme firmware, as that appears to be the best choice even though MS is doing off line checks.  A chip that will nullify the internet connectivity incase you forget to pull the internet cord from the back of the system prior to playing a burned game that works with 5.2 extreme firmware is what I need I guess.  My friend has an internal switch that he made for his that is tied into the internet switch so that if a burned game is played, there is no way for the system to receive the internet signal.  It was an extensive mod that he did, and he suggested that I find out what's available chip wise before he invests the time and I invest the money in having him to that additional work.

My next question is are certain serial numbers or dvd drives not compatible with certain chips?  Anyone have a reference table that they could point me into so that I can cross reference my xbox 360 with a chip that will work properly?

The problem you will have is that all the modchips (at least the ones I know of) NEED original firmware.  That means you cant have a flashed drive and a chip at the same time, because the chip runs off original firmware, and flashing would obviously change that original firmware.

If you are worried about it, why not just install a Xeno or NME with an external on/off switch?  Or do what you said your friend did, and make an external on/off switch for the Ethernet connection.

I was worried abou that.  I may just get a 2nd 360 that will never go on live.  Looking at the NME 2.1 website, they claimed that it was safe against being banned from live, and as we know many people got banned.  How do these chips that "claim" they automatically shut down the internet work?  How does a chip being connected to a DVD drive relate to shutting down the internet connectivity, which is connected elsewhere on the MOBO?  Any references that you can point me to that explain how these newer chips work?
Is the globe v2 already out?

you solder a wire to the NME and the other end to a point on the mobo, thats how  (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif)  look on the install diagrams for Network Off feature.
