Xeno 260 Install
« on: August 05, 2007, 11:37:00 PM »

Hi Ive just installed the xeno 360 in my xbox with dvdrom version 59. The question is in the in ModChip_Installation_Guide_for_XBOX_360.pdf it says

Using the desoldering braid, remove all solder from all the pins on the drive board. Apply some
solder only to the pins you will be using, this will help the wire stick and perhaps prevent shorts.
Tin both ends of the wire as well. This is fo solder to the SST chip in the dvdrom.

So my question is do i unsolder all the pins on that side of the SST or do i just solder the new wires and leave the SST alone

You are basically answering your own question lol  (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif) .  Do what the guide says: unsolder all the pins on that side of the SST chip.  Then, just tin your wires with some solder, and solder them to the correct trace pins from the SST chip.

I would not recommend applying solder to the pins you need like the guide says to do - I found this difficult and only possible with my finest of soldering tips, and even still you have to make sure to have the exact amount of solder on your tip needed, otherwise it will just cross over to other pins!  Tinning your wires should be more than enough.

Sorry for being so dumb but this is my boys xbox and I dont want to screw it up. So if I lift all the pins off the SST chip (16) Pins This will completely disable the SST chip right. I have already soldered the three wires for my rom ver downstream of the SST chip by soldering into the traces and since I have already done that your saying to just desolder the 16 pins from the SST chip and lift all of these pins from the chip so that one side is not touching any part of the board on the DVDrom.

I hope you understand what Im saying

Please help me maybe Im thinking to much into this but if I lift all those pins and its not the right thing I would never get those pins soldered back in right (IMG:style_emoticons/default/ohmy.gif)

Thinks again for your help

This thinking about this and looking around for more info. But one more question since i have already soldered the three wires to the board traces can i just lift up on all the other pins of the SST chip. I know people are going to say yours saying the same thing But dont understand if Once I lift all the pins that do I leave the three wires I solder to the board or remove them and solder them onto the correct pins  of the lifted SST chip

NO!!! Ok I just now understood what you are asking!!  DO NOT unsolder the SST chip!  When the guide says desolder, it means to just remove the solder from the end of the traces!

See this pic:

That is where you should be soldering your wires - at the end of the traces.  If you have solder on those traces already (some boards do, some dont) remove it, then solder your wires accordingly.

Live Prophet, This is what I have done so far. All wires have been solder per the manual. Now I know Iam going back to it again but as far as the SST chip I know I have DVDrom version 59 so I have cut into the traces and soldered the three wires to these traces and using a voltmeter verified that there are no shorts. As far as the SST chip I have done nothing with it but solder the three wires to it. It is still in place as is so is this all I need to do besides solder all the wires to the xeno360 chip and put it back together.

By the way thanks for not shouting at me for asking to many questions but I want to do this right the first time because if I screwed something up and the xbox doesnt work then Iam on my way back to the store to by my boy a new one and I can save that 400 dollars for something else.

And if you have another link to that pic I would like to see it still

No problem man, in my mind, there are never too many questions or any stupid ones when it comes to stuff like this.  Id rather you be completely sure of what to do than ruin your sons Xbox 360.

Here are a couple of pics of an NME install (this is the best I could find on google lol but it will give you an idea of how & where to solder your wires, just know that this is an entirely different chip than the one you have!):

If you like, I can probably post a couple pics of my install because tomorrow I am opening everything up to do some cooling mods.  I have the same chip as you, but instead of a Hitachi 59 I have a 79.

You are welcome.

Just remember that you also need to solder your 5v wire, GND wire (ground), power eject wire, and you need to close off jumper B7 on the chip.  I would strongly recommend you go here and look at the official diagram instead of just using that guide:  Xeno 360 Official Site

I will make a small guide of my own right here just so you know exactly what to do:

Since you have a Hitachi 59, I have cut out everything in this pic that you dont need, and everything in red is what you need to do: (IMG:http://img235.imageshack.us/img235/3836/hitachifn9.jpg)

Also, here is the direct link to the image: Xeno Install on Hitachi 59
