was just wondering if anyone knew any information on if any chip developers are near or working on disabling region protection or not?  reason i ask is, cause this would be huge if the region protection is disabled to allow import games to play on the 360.

Region coding is set in the keyvault of your kernel.  It can be changed and the knowledge of what to do requires quite a bit of reading and understanding.  That being said, you can't make it 'region free'.  You can change it from region to region.

ok i understand all of that, but from what i also know is that major updates can change the kernels you're referring to.  updates like the spring dashboard, but what i'm wondering....to be more specific is if anyone is making a chip that would say change that kernels value upon a ntsc-j, or pal region game being read by the console?

Im not going to say no one is working on one, but as of right now it just isn't easily possible.  Like Caster said you can change from region to region, but it probably isnt a task that the average person could do without reading up on it and guidance.
