Nme 1.2 Install Gone Bad Probly Bricked It
« on: July 18, 2007, 06:54:00 AM »

I picked up a NME 1.2 to put in my 360. I thought i had everything installed right and it errors out even on original copy of gears of war. I rechecked everything and when testing gears again it spit the disc out during the game start up and the disc was still spinning (looked like i had something possess my xbox there). Now i get an E65 error. I have a samsung Ms28. My guess is its bricked, but i wanted to see what u guys say see what i can do to fix it. I'm about to try takin the mod chip off complete and see if i can get it back to normal.

well after removing the NME v1.2 i now get a e64 error. So im pretty sure the drive is bricked. Does anyone know if the NME v1.2 is also bricked and is there a way to check to see if it is?

Check your SST chip leads (with a multimeter) to ensure the pins aren't shorted.

Let me ask you this, whenever you are at that E64 screen, does the DVD drive still eject?

sounds like something was/is shorting.

With samsung though the points aren't really close together and it'd be kinda hard to short something out.
I think if anything, you may have wired it up incorrectly and fried something.

MMm mm can u post any hi-res good shots of ur install?

thats what i was think. I don't have a access to a camera right now. I just used an old IDE cable for the wiring. I followed the directions from there website and looked over some of the tutorials that ppl have posted here. Im gusseing i must have messed up on the A or the 5v line. Would his have killed my mod chip as well or just the drive and is there a way to check my chip?

Most likely you just messed something up on the DVD drive board.  About the only way I could see you actually breaking the chip is if you soldered it to the 12v by accident! (and that has happened to people here)

Anyway, it shouldnt be that hard to fix your DVD drive.
From my experience, you definately want to check that 5v point and make absolutely sure there are no broken traces or capcitors.

I saw a tutorial were somebody installed the 5v+ point to the back next to the 12v+ but are why are ppl doin it that way instead of they way the offical way?

No matter where you get your 5v from, its still 5v.  People just have different methods I guess, and maybe they find other 5v spots easier to reach than the recommended one by Team-Underdog.

I can tell you right now though that the Ground point they recommend is totally pointless, because you can simply solder your ground to the huge one next to the dvd power cable!

Yea the one spots that ppl were saying to solder to seemed alot better because the points were away from the black stuff and was just one less thing to deal with. There were a couple of points still in the black stuff.

Well if you are still having problems you could maybe try recheking all of your points.  Maybe even desolder them, clean with rubbing alcohol, then resolder them.

I forgot to mention also check for shorts, loose connections, solder spills, etc.
