Xeno360 On Hitachi Fw78 Problems
« on: July 09, 2007, 07:31:00 AM »

Hi all,
I am new here so be kind please  (IMG:style_emoticons/default/jester.gif)
I got xeno360 chip solderedered on xbox360 with hitachi fw78 drive as show on photos bellow

(IMG:http://memberuploads.xbox-scene.com/uploads/2007_07_09/15_11_29_xeno1.jpg)
The chip is placed on the back of the board

(IMG:http://memberuploads.xbox-scene.com/uploads/2007_07_09/15_11_53_xeno2.jpg)
It maybe looks a bit f***ed up, but it`s 100% ok, i`ll had checked it with multimeter through the scratch through parts which i made after testing, not before

(IMG:http://memberuploads.xbox-scene.com/uploads/2007_07_09/15_12_33_xeno3.jpg)
The power and gnd is exactly where the standard manual points them and it`s working (5V reading while running and wired properly)

And here goes the problem >
After powering on the xbox by eject button, the light on the xeno360 goes on (the red LED) this is ok right? But if i insert original disc, it`s running which is definitely not ok, right? The backups doesnt run independently on how I burn them (it show the standard screen with message in few languages and think that the red light on xeno goes off (IMG:style_emoticons/default/sad.gif) ). So what now? The chip is wired properly (at least it seems so), it`s even running, but the originals are still playable and backups not.

I`ll be very happy for every suggestion or solution.

P.S.> I had found, that some of you guys are soldering the VCC and GND to another points with thicker wires, but it shouldnt be a problem while the connection is OK ...

I found that with some 78 hitachi drives it is impossible to get the xeno360 working.
I suppose they didn`t make it compatible with EVERY 78 firmware.  (IMG:style_emoticons/default/sad.gif)

Oh, thats kinda sad after all that soldering and testing ... do you think, that I could do some RMA or something like that, it`s from mod-chip.com? It`s kinda weird situation, because I cannot proof that it`s not working and they also cannot proof that it is (i suppose). Do you got some links or other situations with 78 hitachis online? I will take a picture of the version sticker tommorow and post it here.

Why is there a small metal wire going from E01 to the leds on the chip? Look in the first picture you uploaded....  This may have fallen on there and could be causing a short?

Oh, I missed that while checking the chip, but It`s visible on the photo ... I`ll will check it later today, THX for now (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)
EDIT: closer examination of the photo tells me, that it`s almost impossible that it`s a piece of a wire. The black ones are solid and the red/yellow are made of 7 little wires, but they got far bigger diameter than that tiny little thingy. But anyway, I check it.

From my point of view it`s not working as it should, so I am going for an RMA (IMG:style_emoticons/default/sad.gif)

Try switching your ground to the huge ground point next to the DVD power cable.

If you are looking at the board with the dvd power cable opposite you, the ground is the right side of the power cable plug.

It seems a lot of people have problems with the original GND, so this may help you.

Maybe i missed something, but did you remember to solder your power-eject wire?  It goes from the xeno to the eject button on the mobo.  Thats what you do the "hold eject 5 seconds" thing for.
