Nme V1.2s
« on: June 22, 2007, 12:13:00 PM »

Hello everyone, i'm a long time viewer, first time poster of this forum.

I was just wondering if the samsung only version of this modchip is having more success than the all in one version (nme v1.2 hitachi/samsung)?

I have already attempted a nme v1.2 with all variations of install (stock version, 470 coil removed w/ solder bridge, 470 coil removed and put on 5V spot w/ solder bridge, 220 coil in place of 470 coil) and i could not get it work. I have the point A connected on the chip (scraped away the epoxy), point I on the back of the board, original ground and optional ground, and the 5V in the standard place.  All the connections look solid, the wire would not come off if i tried to pull it away.  I wiped down the A point on the chip with Isopropyl alcohol.  I have tried 2 different games and burned them step by step via the NME guide on the site. I am using verbatim DL media burning at 2.4x and tried some at 6x (but that shouldnt make a difference when it comes to reading the game initially).  I have tried using a Pioneer 212D and Plextor 716SA burner.  So i have come to the conclusion that the chip is a dud.  Granted I haven't gotten out the multimeter and checked all the points, but i have resoldered the system 2-3 times now, and i have a lot of soldering experience (nintendo wii's and PS1's).  I keep getting the Please insert game into a 360 error.  I ordered the chip from www.foundmy.com

So yea this takes me back to my original question, have people been having success with the samsung only version? I ordered this chip from www.modchip.ca. I also have 2x xeno-360's coming in, so if this fails i can go with a sure thing.

Oh yea one more thing, i do have the B point grounded (i tried both ground points, the one on the resistor and the one on the chip itself)

Hi bud! I think I could know the solution for your case...
The first time I install an NME-360 v1.2 chip I've got something similar... all the connections were OK but the chip wasn't working properly. Then I noticed that the 5v point indicated on the team's underdog website eas giving only 2.3v instead of 5v... that was all.
The first test I did was to connect three batteries AAA to the 5v of the chip and it works just great!
So then I began to look for some 5v point (a real one) on the DVD board. And I've found one!
take a look in my tutorial!!! there's all you need!!!

please tell me if it works for you..

I found this method of +5V and Ground connections to be the most attractive (as it's on the same side of the board and gives you a large soldering area). Your results may vary. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)

Hmm...thats strange, I never actually tested the 5v point shown on the NME v1.2 diagram, but I used that 5v point for my Xeno 360, and it has worked flawlessly for months now.

Sorry, I should have mentioned that that was for a Hitachi drive. I'm not sure if the same goes for the Samsung.

I just got a NME v1.1s and installed it on the same points as i had on the NME 1.2 and it worked perfectly.  I guess I had a defective NME v1.2
