Modchips uhhm, for the DVD drive... cmon, that's just as useless as a penny on an interstate. The only worthwhile DVD hardware mod I'd say is the dual firmware mod, which isn't a 'modchip' persee~.

To answer what the best modchip out there is, I'd say none, they all are a waste of money to me, just flash your drive.

I've ordered one of these. I think it's the best option as it is flashable when new solutions become available and leaves room for future homebrew application possibilities. I will let you know my full opinion on Monday when I get it and install it. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)

If you're just into playing backups, then it really depends on what DVD drive you have and if you care about future-proofing. So far, the Xeno 360 seems to work best for some drive models and makes, but the NME 1.2 seems to work better for others. I agree that the smartest solution is to get a flashable modchip for future updates (I believe the Globe360 is flashable). They also seem more resistant to the Live bans.

Depending on your DVD drive and you're willingness to be banned from online play, software flashing is the best and easiest method to play backups.

I hope that is enough information for you...

I think people here seem to bash on DVD modchips too much.  There are certain situations where flashing just isnt the best option.

Take mine, for example.  I dont have a computer with SATA, nor do I know anybody.  I also dont want to spend $55 or more on a USB flasher, or $69.99 on a Blaster 360 (or any other clone of it).  So, for me, using an NME at $36 or Xeno at $45 was the cheapest and quickest option.

Interesting point, also another downside I've found with flashing the F/W is that I completely forgot how to do it,  since it was more than 4 months ago, I also misplaced the sata pci card for flashing and have no idea where it is..

Probably the only person with this problem, but this is why I was considering a chip. The lost original firmware is one other problem I havn't solved yet.

Same as the old Newbie chat rules here.
No what Chip threads. it starts disputes. In case you didn't see this is a technical section on Modchip development.
