Nme V1.2 On Samsung Getting Error
« on: May 01, 2007, 12:44:00 AM »

I have a Samsung drive which has the nme installed to it. I my self did not solder the chip onto the board i payed someone highly qualified for the job. I have not yet connected the wires to the LED and the NETWORK features. When i turn on my xbox i got an error e65, upon boot from the cd rom the xbox gives a 1-2sec glimpse of there xbox login and then shows the black screen of death with error e65 ... I have checked online and this msg means: Drive Error.... DVD Timeout, Wrong firmware, dvd is without f/w chip, etc.
I have not removed anything from the chip. the 470 coil is still intact, and i have just recently purchased this perhaps a week ago ..
I cannot eject the DVD rom either.

any suggestions would be awesome

I had this ugly error and you can see a post I did earlier on this board. I tried a few things and sent it back to the guys that did my install. They found a broken trace on the drive itself and that fixed that issue, but now I am dealing with the error od put this game in a 360 console. I would get a mag out and check all over that drive, more than likely it is under that ugly yuck stuff on the back!!

Im sorry to tell you this, but it looks like you wasted your money because that sounds like the installer did a crappy job, and the fact that the DVD tray wont open proves it.

Before you try any of the following though, go to www.team-underdog.com and confirm that the installation is correct.

When the tray wont eject that means there is a power failure somewhere on the board.  This could result from a ruined 5volt point, the trace to the 5v point is broken, damaged capacitors, a damaged trace elsewhere, or even a short.

The chip could also be shorting out.  Try maybe an alternate ground point (like the huge one next to the power cord plug in).  Also, try mounting the chip with a small foam pad and double sided tape.

Thank you for your suggestions, I didnt pay the installer anything .. and i highly doubt that he would short anything out because he's done this kind of thing before and if i had a picture to show you, it looks mint condition. Although accidents and things do happen so that could always be a possiblity no doubt. I have sent the Xbox back to the installer with the error codes and everything else, i'll mention to him to check the 5v point or for any damanged capactiros .. and everything else u mentioned. It is possible the chip could be shorting out ... which was my original guess because the xbox loads up and show the xbox flying over the screen like the regular logon but then gives the error, giving me the impression that something is being shorted. If i remember correctly he had connect the ground point to the one showed on www.team-underdog.com . And the chip has been facined to the board already, however as i mentioned before the LED and NETWORK was not connect .. even though i highly doubt that was the problem. I have also mention to my installer about removing the Coil and creating a bridge.

Thanks again for your support .. anymore more would be greatfull ~!

Your welcome, just glad I could help.

Anyway, more on that E65.  You should make sure that when you reclose everything the DVD Drive itself is in place, like make sure you put it in then push down and you can sorta hear it fit in place, like a soft click sound.  Thing about an E65 is that it can mean a variety of things.

Oh and I meant no disrespect to your installer, its just that the first thing that came to my mind was a bad install.

Also, you should tell your installer to try uninstalling the chip and seeing if everything works normally then, because if it doesnt at least you know then that the DVD Board is damaged and probably not the chip.

Thank you again for everyone's feedback and support expecially LIVE prophet! .. if i had REP i'd donate it towards you for helping me out, keep up the work!

I have received my 360 back, and the problem with the drive was a connection between a wire and the board its self.... I have not yet made a back up of my games, so i am unaware if a backup plays but a original plays perfectly. Is there a chance that a back up WILL NOT play?

I couldn't see the edit button so flame away for double posting ....

but does it matter what media i will be using to create the back up with and also .. i am not 100% sure that an original works i have tried it now when i am at work and i was told by the installer that it works 100% but i do not have the controller here with me but the disc drive does now open and it loads into the dashboard, i will attempt it when i get home with the controller and post how everything goes.

Yes, good media is important.  I use Verbatim brand DVD+R DL, but you could try experimenting with different brands.  Who knows, maybe you will find a cheaper brand that works fine?

Anyway, you can go to www.team-underdog.com and use the complete step by step guide to making a backup.  Some notes on this though, make sure when you burn your game it is at 2.4x speed, and in the last step when you will be burning your game select the .dvd file (will do automatically anyway if you use ImgBurn).  Lastly, remember, do not skip any steps, they are crucial to making a game backup.

Any more questions, feel free to ask me!

Alright .... soo I've got home and tested everything ...

Of course it doesn't work again, my problem now is that it will not read the disc. It loads into the dashboard and gives me the message saying "Insert Game, Cd Or Dvd" ....

Im sure there is an answering Laying around this forum somewhere so i'll take a look around. If anyone knows the answer for this problem feel free to post it. Again i am using the NME v1.2 .. And Using ORIGINAL disc, NOT a backup.

That probably is a chip problem, no doubt.  Assuming everything was installed properly this time around.  Anyway, I would like to help you, but honestly I dont know that I can now that it is a chip problem.  The NME v1.2 just has too many possible problems.  The LED feature and Network features dont work for most people, the chip sometimes doesnt reset properly (from backup mode to original mode), the 470 coil on the chip itself was the wrong coil (team-underdog admitted this themselves!).......see what I mean?

That is why I personally do not use the NME chips.  In my opinion, they are crap.  The Xeno 360 is a clone of it, and actually works 100%  People may complain about the fact that you have to power on the chip with the eject button (hold for 5 seconds) but come on, its only 5 seconds!!  You do 100 times more button pressing while playing a game!

So, if you rather, just go get a Xeno-360.  Hell, if you trust me enough, Id install it for you!  Thats how much I support the Xeno-360!  (Seriously, I have an ebay account, if you really are interested, maybe I could put up an auction for installation services, that way you would have buyer protection.)

Thats to bad that you dont know where to go from here... I My self am stumped that the drive will not read any discs .. even though i have only tried to insert original games into the drive.

I have not yet removed the coil from the chip could that be where my problem lies ? ..

my LED feature works perfectly .. as for the network feature i am unsure becuase i am unable to go online at the moment as no games will load for me yet.

I will try to load a DVD and or a xbox1 dvd to see if it'll work.

I do not want to change chips ... it'll be a huge hassle ... for one i'll have to send back the nme to where i bought it from .. wait for a credit .. and uninstall the chip to begin with. Then i will have to purchace another chip from you or whoever .. and then have that installed .. its just to much of a hassle that i've already gone through ... but then again i may have no other choice .

Alright so I've tried different media (Dvd) and still no go.

The 360 loads into the dashboard .. and when i navigate down to where it says "open tray" on the right hand side it gives me a msg saying to please insert a game, Dvd or Cd.

Im clueless to what the problem could be.

What excatly does removing the coil off of the nme fix ? ....

Ok Im back with a few suggestions.

Try disconnecting your LED feature. Just unsolder the wire.  I know for sure that can cause the chip to not reset properly.

You definately need to remove that 470 coil, then bridge the gap with solder. (the two exposed solder pads after you remove it.)  Please do be careful when removing this, you dont want to ruin the chip.  It is a small area to work with, so the best way is to first add more solder to both sides of the 470 (called bathing) then just hold your solder tip to the side of the chip and give a little push until it lifts up a little, then do the same to the other side and it will come off.

Remove the Network Off wire, by unsoldering it.  This is similar to the LED problem, so just remove this for now.
