Technical And N00b Questions About The Nme V.1.2
« on: April 12, 2007, 01:28:00 PM »

Hey guys,
Ive modded many systems before and am experienced in soldering and this sort of thing. However, this is my first 360 mod and was wondering...

1. Does hacking the XBOX 360 Rom Drive with firmware hacks needed if I am going to install a modchip on it?

Being an outsider on the base information about the situation, I would assume that the chip has its own code that would manipulate the rom drive's in order to play the backed up DVD + & -r's.

I have a v 1 xbox 360 and the drive is an Hitachi v.0046DH _ GDR-3120L

-I also have an NME-360 v1.2 mod chip that I have already done the "fix" mod to it http://www.team-underdog.com/home.html

Im not sure what the "fix" mod actually changes since I havn't installed he chip yet but at least that part is out of the way.

-I know that there is a "fix" mod but on this page that is a contridictory statment about the "fix"
http://www.team-underdog.com/hitachi.html team underdog states:

"The NME-360 v1.2 comes with a small SMD part (coil). This coil is only required for Hitachi 46/47/58/59 DJ drives.
Solder the coil with one side to the 5V point of the chip and to the other side solder the wire which then leads to the 5V point of the DVD drive. Hitachi 78 and Samsung drives drives don't require the additional coil."

Ok, this is kind of adjitating me because of the unproffesionalism involved with this group.

First off, the main page says in order to fix the chip you need to unsolder the current coil on the chip, which has the number (470) on it, and then solder it on the 5V point on the chip.

Secondly, it says on the other hitachi page that the second coil to come in the chip's package, number (220), is suppost to be soldered in the same spot of the (470) coil that I just moved. But only for Hitachi 46/47/58/59 DJ drives.

As you have read before I have a Hitachi v 46 DH drive. I am wondering if they site made a typo with the letters DH and DJ.

2. Is there such a thing as a Hitachi v 46 DJ drive? And if there is, I would assume that I do not need to add the (220) coil.

3. But if I did have to then would I have to place the (470) coil back to its origional spot and break the solder bridge that I made?

-The Hitachi page also states that the drive laser levels need to be adjusted for maximum readability of the Backups. But Again, with the vagueness it does not tell you how to adjust the laser but only check the level of intesity.

4. Does anyone know where I adjust the laser? I know with my gamecube there was a tiny screw that would adjust the laser.

Anyway I know alot of the questions would be hard to answer if you were not already in my shoes before. But please try to do the best that you can and thank you for your help already.

1. Your choices are installing a Modchip OR hacking the firmware, don't do the two.

2. I think NME is a small french enterprise: sometimes the language used in their instructions is not perfect. But in my opinion this chip is excellent, one of the best on the market.

I'm not sure for the coil. I believe the Fix is not needed when you do not connect the network.

3. If the fix is done, do not go back . In fact the 220 coil could be added using wires, you don't need to add it directly on the chip. I mean, I would add the 220 coil by connecting it to a wire which is connected to the 470 coil. But like I said i'm not sure about what the fix does and if there's a difference between DJ or DH. In my case I have a 78FK.

4. Tweaking the laser is easy. Be carefull tough. Use a very small flat screwdriver and turn clockwise the little "screw" from the left. Use a multimeter (buy one if needed, should be cheap..) and select on your multimeter something like: K omhs OR 20K under the sign of ohm . Also I would recommend you to tweak it in two steps, testing in a first time your backups at something like 3.05 then if it doesn't work tweak the laser again up to 2.8-2.9. Do NOT go lower. They say "not lower than 2.5" but I think you should be able to make your backups work before that point.

Hope this helps!
I just received my second nme 1.2 in the meanwhile!

a good old french canadian

Thanks alot for your input man smile.gif . So when you say you don't connect to network, that means that you don't use any internet features like xbox live etc.  From reading the NME site, the chip auto shuts off when a retail game is being inserted hence it is alot harder to detect on live.  As for not putting the coils back in place or not, I'm pretty sure I can put them back on the chip no problem; I just need to know if I need to or not.

when for adjusting the laser on the left. Did you mean the small screw to the lower left or the bigger screw directly to the left that has a twin screw next to it?

Hey is there any way to tell if my NME is working without a backup.

The reason I ask is that I have the chip in and everything seems to be working fine (ie originals all playing movies etc) but the backup I made is being recognised as an audio disk. I just want to know if the chip is playing up or If I cocked up the backup (followed the Xbox backup creator tutorial though)

Cheers

again you need to make sure the file size is correct or it wont work

Game disk - 7,307,001,856
Xtreme iso: 7.572.881.408
NME associated: 7,705,657,344

every disk is the same file size - if yours is incorrect save the planet and a disk cus it wont work

hope that helps
