Ok so i swaped out my 360...and this time i got another sammy drive i opened it took the black epoxy off...put back together....without chip.......same thing error 65 E

is there something doing wrong here?

i've seen that ...but it doesnt tell me anything about how or why im getting that E65 error and the tray doesnt open....?? it does that without a chip...if i open my drive and take off the epoxy....i thouth maybe i didnt plug something back in right...but i doubble checked everything

ive been reading around...and the only people who got that error E65 and tray did not open. But , it was from a bad flash for them.......My FW is origional......the new 360 i just took it apart....took off epoxy in needed places...closed it back up....turned it on....and get the error...no chip installed or attempted ? the 2nd 360 to do this

Without the chip it does the same... then you broke something when you took off the epoxy. I dont know what/where you scratched off the epoxy. But you may have broken a trace.

i was just thinking that...i looked at the board ...there was some of the green enamel scraped up ..and a little bit exposed traces..but i didnt see any broken/cut.....i was using heat plus exacto knife......ill get ahold of a new 360 tomorrow ..and go the safe way with taking off the epoxy....swing by lowes / homedepot and use jasco paint/epoxy remover........is there any other way of removing the epoxy? a safe way ?

If you got green enamel scraped up then you probably scrape too much somewhere. I won't use thinner or epoxy remover. Just take it easy and slow down. Heat the epoxy with a heat gun. No longer than 45 seconds. Scrape epoxy. Repet until you get a clear solder point. Before soldering clean point with some isopropyl alcohol. Also the point I, you have to scapr that point gently, and I mean gently, to expose the copper trace point in order to get a good solder.

take some GOOD close pictures. maybe we can figure out what trace is bad.

do u have a multimeter? can you test from one end of a trace to another.

im getting same problem man, exactly like the poster of topic, i removed the 470 bridged it and still same error and shit, the epoxy has nuffin to do with it really on the main chip as removing the black thing on the pin u get fresh trax//

No. In his case it DOES have somethign to do with it because with or without the chip he gets the same error. So he messed something up on the drive itself. Probably a cut trace or over heated a component.

If it works without the chip somehting is wrong with the installation or chip. But if it doesn't work without the chip, something is wrong with the drive itself...

For him, I think something happened to the drive when he scratched off the epoxy.
For you, I think theres something wrong with your installation or your chip.

you were right......i messed it up.....but i got another 360 today and instead if heat and chippin at the epoxy i used jasco premium paint / epoxy remover on the spots where it was needed. put it on waited maybe 5 minutes scaped,,,,.....and that was it....put the chip in and everything runs fine......

no its gone already......another question for ya.....i mounted my chip externally...on the side of the dvd drive.....but its kinda close to that metal part thats connect to the fan.....do you think ill have any problems with the heat??...i put elec tape over the wires and some over the chip just incase.....do you think ill have to move it somewhere else?
