What is everything working like it should? Does the chip turn off and on regularly? Does it read Orginals? I am starting a small pile of coasters trying to see if my chip even works. I have followed the directions on the Team-underdog (I even purchased the drives they recommend). Any body in Northern Virginia that has a working backup I could use to test my chip?

There is a problem with the latest batch of chips. I run modchipfitters.com and we have been working very closely with team-underdog to cure this problem. At the moment we are soldering to an alternative ground point  . This point is on the next metal can  capacitor to the outside corner of the board i.e. with sst reading the right way up on the board the one up and right from the usual one. Also you need to remove the coil marked 470 from the chip and bridge with wire or solder. We have now succesfully modded 3 samsung drives with this batch of chips with this method. Hope this helps.

We have just applied the mod that "turbospud" suggested.  It appears that the fault does lie with the coil.  However once the coil mod is done "Orginal" games dont work.  If you remove the power to the modchip "Orginals" begin to play again.  We are either gonna fit a switch to the NME 1.2 to make it turn of the chip manually (Annoying) or replace the coil with another one that works and see if that fixes the issue.  I

What was the intended purpose of the coil?  Despite the fact that bypassing the coil seems to make the chip work, doesn't removing a component seem like a bad idea?

removing a componet isnt a bad idea if it makes the chip work and it does.  Seems like "Team Underdog" cant manufacturer boards correctly as we shouldnt have to mod a modchip.  Doesnt inspire me with confidence that the "Network Off" feature actually will work as they specified either.  If it wasnt for turbospud i would be still blaming the fault on bad media and getting "Use Verbatim" type replies  biggrin.gif

So if i understand this right. If I add a switch to the 5v power to the chip I will be able to turn the chip on and off. When it is on I cannot play original games.

Turbospud, or anyone else with a multimeter  Any chance you'd have time to confirm this for me? The 470 and ground change made no diff for me, and originals will still boot right up.
Can you us the continuity checker on your multimeter with your chip and see if it beeps when you touch both sides of the cap (small light brown thing where the picture on the nme site shows you to set the NME-360 v1.2 to Samsung mode by shortening point B to GND. Your response makes me wonder which one of our chips are bad.

Thanks

Anyone....??  Please...

Anyone....??  Please...

I removed the 470 chip and my chip will turn off and on depending on the game inserted. It still does not read orginal games. The orginal game will begin to load but not do anything. I still need to turn the chip off with the switch.

I am still having trouble reading back ups. My coasters are starting to mulitple. I have tried 2 different Games backing up 2 different ways. Still no Luck.

I am using the setup on the teamunderdog site (media, drives, software - all are as they recomend.

The continuity will remains the same regardless of the chip installed....

I am not very good with electricals and i found the soldering instructions pretty easy to follow when used with pictures also posted on this forum.  The only bit i was unsure was where the solder points were as i thought they were on the main motherboard (At first) and didnt realise they are on the DVD drive motherboard.  Team underdogs instructions could do with bigger pictures that arent so heavily cropped.

I have been testing the NME 1.2 this weekend and it seems to have problems switching between "Backup" and "Orginals" mode.  My modchip has had the mod done mentioned by "Turbospud".  Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesnt its a bit unreliable.  The only way to get it to go through its modes is to use the controller to shutdown the console and turn it back on again (Even this method doesnt always work).

Overall im not very impressed with the modchip.

I have to slightly disagree. I had no trouble installing my first Hitachi chip. I could easily find all the points I needed. When it came time for my first Samsung. I did attempt to remove glue, but quickly decided to do an alternate install.

In other words, I had no trouble deciphering the images. I do agree that there needs to be BETTER ones. Which is why I decided to make a better walkthrough guide. IF I can remember, the next time I do an install I'll do a pictorial walkthrough

Think thats a great idea, just dont understand why they dont themselfs do a pic run through

example take point 1 and run to point A pic here with large pic and arrow

one question why is there a 470 tab and a 220 tab in the packed which is required for pal model samsung ??

or is the 220 going somewhere ive missed whilst reading it ??

Solution.
Remove the "470" coil, and replace it with the "220" coil as shown on the picture below.
IPB Image

Both Originals and the backup works. But you have to turn the machine of and on if swithcing from a backup to an original.

Happy moddning. biggrin.gif

With the solution i presented the Automatic funtions of the chip is still working.
With the other solution with shortcircuting the 470 coil, you force the chip to always be on and therefore booting backups only works and not originials.. so you have a handicapped xbox 360.

The "220"  coil you see on the picture i posted, should have been bundled with the chip you purchaced and is originaly used for hitachi 46>59 but as i have shown you, you can remove the "470" and replace it with "220" so that you get all the functions back on the Samsung drive.

The reason why this has happent, maybe because the latest batch there where faulty "470" coils i dunno but the chip works like a charm otherwise, so there is nothing wrong with the chip in it self.
This problem is only for Samsung drives and not hitachi.

Seems to be little random this problem. Done a couple of samsungs now.

replace the 470 coil with the 220 like the picture above if your samsung is: ms28 (Boots both backups and originals)
Remove the 470 coil and solder the points togheter if your samsung is: ms25 (Boots both backups and originals)

Replacing the 470 with 220 on a ms25 didnt made any diffrence on the samsung ms25 i did.
