Nme 1.2 Install Problems
« on: February 28, 2007, 08:49:00 PM »

I see another user is having similiar problems. I will attempt to recopy and see if that is the issue. Would it be possible to 'borrow' a known working backup to see if my chip works?

I am having a problem with a recent batch of chips as well.  I can play backups, but originals tell me to insert an xbox 360 disc.

I desoldered my working chip and soldered one of the new chips in its place and my box which worked with both backups and originals now will only play backups.  I then resoldered in my old chip and verified that it played both originals and backups.

I am having the exact same problem. Since you checked voltage as well, here is an odd question. Mine showed ground on BOTH sides of the resistor closest to the B point (where they show you to ground to signify a samsung drive) Is yours this way as well? My multimiter will beep when there is continuity, this is the only resitor on the chip that does such, is yours the same way?I am certain all my solder points and copy procedure are good so I ordered a new DL burner. I was using a Sony with a lite-on flash. Once it arrives I will post results. Here is my post, but it seems we are in the same boat!

  THANKS!

OH, forgot to mention, with the current set up, backups go to the white "into a 360" screen, but original still load right up. Even after the above screen.

Mine would not load any games. How did you get it to load an orginal game even after the "360" screen.
We checked the ground on several points of the board. We checked the continuity from the B post to the GND Post on the chip. I purchased all the equipment specified in the backing up process.  I am going to create another backup to test my chip. I am working with the company I purchased my chip from to see if I can exchange the chip.

Another user posted a option of installing a switch as a temp fix. What version of the 360 are you using?

There is a problem with the latest batch of chips. I run modchipfitters.com and we have been working very closely with team-underdog to cure this problem. At the moment we are soldering to an alternative ground point  . This point is on the next metal can  capacitor to the outside corner of the board i.e. with sst reading the right way up on the board the one up and right from the usual one. Also you need to remove the coil marked 470 from the chip and bridge with wire or solder. We have now succesfully modded 3 samsung drives with this batch of chips with this method. Hope this helps.

I didn't do anything special, it seems to be working like normal. Can you us the continuity checker on your multimeter with your chip and see if it beeps when you touch both sides of the cap (small light brown thing where the picture on the nme site shows you to set the NME-360 v1.2 to Samsung mode by shortening point B to GND. Your response makes me wonder which one of our chips are bad.

Hey turbospud are you saying remove the 470 coil above the GND connection on the NME chip and shorting it? And what does this fix, because in my other post i can't play originals and had to install a switch. Well i'm going to try it and see what happens.

I got my NME 1.2 to work on my Samsung drive but didn't follow underdogs instruction to solder point B onto the capacitor.  The point was too small.  I solder a small wire to point B. Solder a second wire to GND.  Then I join those 2 wires to the wire that was connected to the ground point on the board. Make sure you scrape point I to expose the copper on the board to get a good contact.

Does it matter where you solder the ground? I followed the diagram on the instructions and we have continuity from our connections (Testing in several places). Would moving the ground to another point on the board afect how the chip works? It does not make ane scense, a ground is a ground (Granted higher voltage ground matters, etc...)

The chip seems to work, it boots in backup mode regardless of the disc inserted or boot procedure (boot with cd in, boot with w/o cd in, etc)

I would like to confirm the removal of 470 working.

I had a Samsung MS25 with a 1.2 chip that would not boot for the life of me. All points tested working.

I removed the 470 coil, and it started working.

Team-Underdog can never seem to get it 100% right sad.gif. Shame they have the best chip.

But as long as removing the 470 coil doesn't affect the 360 itself, I have no problems removing it as long as it keeps my customers happy not having to press Eject biggrin.gif

edit: forgot to mention I used the original ground point. the drive was closed up (i mount the chips externally) so all i did was just remove the 470 coil and that was that.

Quick question before I do this ... .what is the typical response to expect if the I connection isn't attached?  Thats the only connetion I have which is quesitonable .. .would I still get the "Please insert this into an xbox 360 console" screen?  I was under the impression that this screen only ahppens with bad media OR when the chip has issues (current topic).  Would I get this behavior if one of my solder points, specifically I wasn't attached?

Thanks,

(Just trying to rule things out before going down a lot of random paths)

tbh never been an issue so couldn't tell you how it would behave all you need to do is desolder the 470 and solder a link wire in its place

Turbospud, or anyone else with a multimeter  Any chance you'd have time to confirm the above for me? The 470 and ground change made no diff for me, and originals will still boot right up.

Thanks

Damn sorry man, i forgot. I already sent that xbox back out. Hopefully soemone else can let you konw.
