Globe 360 Question
« on: February 16, 2007, 08:44:00 AM »

im new to the 360 scene,,(been having too much fun with my cyclowiz chip..wii )   but anyway   i was looking into 360 chips and i heard that globe 360 chip you dont need to do anything with your firmware..install it and your good to go....any thuth to that?...also if it is true,  when it comes to backing up games can i just use wxripper and make a raw dump ..iso then burn it...or do i still have to use ssmerger?
the thing is i dont care about homebrews playing PAL games....all i want a chip for is to not have to do anything with firmware  and play my original and and my own back ups.......is there a chips you recomend for doing that...or is globe OK?

thanx

To my knowledge in order to make a working backup you would need to have the samsung PC drive flashed with the kreon firmware.  If you want to go the modchip route Globe360 is definetly not the easiest to install, it has like 30 wires.  Probably would be better off with something like NME v1.2 which i think for samsung drives has 5 required wires and for hitachi drives has 10 or 11 required wires

i used to have a samsung drive in a nother 360 i had but messed it up trying to flash it with xtreme firmware.......so im trying to avoid having anything to do with firmwares

are there any real modchips for 360 or are they all firmware mods?    i mean i read details on chips like globe 360 , xeno......ect  and in it they say no need for lousey firmware flashing or reading....but when you scroll down its mentions something about flashing the chip?????.....im lost on this

the modchips are also firmware mods, the difference is they do not replace or touch the 360 drive's original firmware, all they do is load the hacked firmware when its needed to read a backup, compared to flashing which completely replaces the original firmware.  This is supposed to make them more safe for  going undetected on Live and getting updates and such since the original firmware is left untouched.

I think some modchips let you update the firmware that it is using so thats probably what you were reading about, but you shouldnt have to do anything to actually get it working other then solder it correctly.  Assuming it is compatible with your drive and you created the backup correctly that is.

Me and a friend did one 360 with NME-360 and it worked right after installing the modchip by following team underdogs guide on how to create a backup:
http://team-underdog.com/howto.html

Im still pretty inexperienced myself tho so I am not sure if there are other ways to make backups or not, but that is the method I used and it worked for me.  Well that is untill we attempted to solder the optional network off wire and killed the whole 360  dry.gif

yeah the ones on ebay that say preflashed with kreon 0.81 should be fine, that is how I got mine, and yes it goes in your PC to create the backup.  Yes you will need to mod the 360 also, whether you choose to flash the firmware or install a modchip.

the modchip for the dvd drive is worthless, you can do the mod for free by flashing the drive instead of paying like $30-50 for a chip

modchips are safer for receiving dashbaord updates and such since they do not replace the original firmware, so if you are someone who wants to use Live regularly then a modchip wouldnt be worthless but if you never go on Live then yeah it wouldnt be worth the price unless its easier to you to solder a modchip then to flash

Chips are worthless, again it's much cheaper and easier to flash the FW. Also the FW can be updated, chips can't (except globe). You can't even play DVD5 XBOX1 games with any of the chips.

And to the guy saying that it's safer to update when using the chip: Nobody knows how M$ will counter the FW. They could add a checking routine to the dash and it check it offline when you have your chip on. Chips only offer a false sense of security when it comes to updates. The chip makers want you to think it's safer so you'll buy it, but do you think the chip makers know M$'s next move? Didn't think so...
