Xport - Possible Solution For Hdtv Modes Request
« on: February 02, 2004, 01:16:00 AM »

XPort,

First off I want to say I believe I understand your hesitation for not implementing a feature in your emulators that saves the HDTV Video selection. In your FAQ's you have stated that it would cause a lot more problems for you to add it in then it would take for us HDTV users to simply switch it everytime we run an emulator.

It is my belief the reason you are doing this is so that the thousands of newbies out there don't go in and start playing with settings, switch to a high def mode, then are unable to figure out how to delete/modify their ini files to correct the issue. Subsequently they would go on to spam you with thousands of questions and or rants about the issue.

Here is my proposed solution. How about allowing some of us more experienced users a line we can add in the ini files that we can manually force a high def mode. I know this seems minor to you, however being a bit of a perfectionist when it comes to my XBox setup it honestly annoys the hell out of me when I have to switch this constantly everytime I start an emulator.

I guess it is my hope to have some discussion on this with some of the other XPort Emulator enthusiasts and get their input on this as well. This feature is what I consider to be the achilles heel of my XBox as well as one of my biggest frustrations.

In closing I would like to state I appreciate all of the hard work you have put into the scene. Myself and others are truly grateful that a person as talented as yourself would share your work for all of us to enjoy.

How about an optional dialogue at the beginning of running the emulator?

ie, if you select an HDTV resolution, the next time you run that emu, it will say "Would you like to switch to HDTV (480p)?" for example.

This way, people wanting to use HDTV would only have to press one button (assume that "yes" is the default answer), and for the newbies, they would have to set the option in the first place and then next time they ran it, they could just choose "no" and never have the question asked again.

Another alternative would be to have a button combo to be held like Black+White+L+(one of the face buttons depending on which res. they want), to enable it permanently, with a more simple button combo to disable it, for the insistant newbies (eg, L+R).

Personally, I don't have an HDTV, but I can understand not wanting to set something like that every time you run an emulator.

BYEEEEE!!

How about xport just makes it save it to the .ini   Let the n00bs learn how to edit a damn text file if they screw up.

I question wether or not it even works temporarily now, it makes no visual difference for me.

I second Format C's request. Let the newbs who dont know how to set things up keep things as is on their push button settings but please give us die hard HDTV users the option to be able to edit the .ini file so we don't have to switch to HDTV resolutions every time we start up the emulator...
