If you understood how the region was checked, you would know why.

The region code is signed as well. To achieve regionfreeness, unsigned code must be allowed.

I would wonder, however, if it would be possible to make patches for region-free games, or at least their region counterpart. It would basically involve injecting different signed code, but afaik, the signature goes completely through it, so it's not just a simple byte change or anything.

Do what I did; get a NTSC/J console. Play your Japanese games, and most of the American games wink.gif

Pardon my ignorance, but that is what i was wondering too, I guess the region lock must be both in the console who checks it, and in the game itself, so as long as it is in the game, can't it be patched in the backup? Maybe the key is to try to edit the region in the game instead of trying to find the console mod that seems almost impossible by now. Of course I'm talking form my ignorance as i dont' know how is the region lock stored in the game, if in the software or in the DVD itself.

Region info is stored in the .xex and changing it at all results in an invalid signature, unless the console gets a full hack to run unsigned code region coding cannot be broken. Simple as that, without being able to run unsigned code it's impossible to make a game region free or play on a region it's not supposed to play on.
