Hitachi 78fk And Nme 1.2 Problems
« on: January 06, 2007, 10:46:00 AM »

UPDATE: I took the laser from the working system, and swapped it in the non-working 360.  Still no love.

It looks like a hardware change between those manufacture dates. Did you notice anything different on the DVD board or motherboard. I been reading about different problems because of these changes. Team Underdog might not have done enough homework to back there claim that 1.2 supports all 78s. If/when they do come out with a new chip, I hope the people who got shafted get a replacement chip.

I haven't read about these problems, but have dreaded this might be the case.
I would like to know if anyone else has had similar problems?

I have a 10-2006 build. I'll see if 1.2 works once I find goddamn TP405.

I'd just try de soldering everything and starting over. Even when I thought everything was ok (testing for shorts, bridges, etc.) I kept redoing it until it finally worked. Other than that I don't know what to tell you.

Mine is quite new (can't look at the date right now) and I did not use the network off feature (MS is not banning for FW at the moment) and it works just fine. Maybe the network off could have something to do with it?

I got it back to work  biggrin.gif I set the chip outside the rom close to the bios to reduce the length of the wires, then increased the + & - wire gauge to 28. In my research I find out that in order to increase the original bios protection on the latest versions of Hitachi 78, they not only covered it with plastic coating but also increase the hacking protection sensibility. In other words, get it as close as possible to the original bios chip.  wink.gif
I hope this one works for a lot of you guys as it worked for me.
