Go figure

I installed one yesterday.. and soldered it to that pin b/c my board was covered in epoxy (FWIW, it's the same trace/connection as the other point).

They also got rid of the random 'B' connection that they had on there before.. It was tethered to ground. I connected it.

I am trying to figure out the same thing.  Points I, GND, and +5V are on the board in the DVD Drive.  Point Y is on the Xbox mainboard, and point X is on the back of the LED panel.

I found points GND and +5V ok, right next to the SST Firmware chip.  The picture of Point I is showing the underside of the DVD board.  Does this mean we solder points GND and +5V to the top of the board and point I to the botton of the board, or should point I be soldered to the top as well?

And someone please correct me if I am wrong about any of the points.  I've never installed a mod chip before.

B connection is back on the diagram today.

What is the B point?  Its in Red, so does that mean its optional?  They're pictures/instructions are freakin' terrible... they dont explain anything.  is B an altnerate point to the ground location? or do you HAVE to wire the Ground location on the diagram? Im confused.. sigh

I just finished installing  (about an hour ago) the nme360 v1.2 in my one week old xbox360. I did solder FIVE wire as per the team underdog website.  I did not bothered with the network and activity led optional connections.  So, I soldered to points +5V, Ground, A, B and I.  I then put everything back together and turned the machine on.  It gave me an errror 65 message.  After I got a heart beat again, I put the defibrillator away ; ) took the thing apart for the second time and fixed the problem.  I had cut a trace when I soldered the point in the back (point I). To fix, it I installed a jump wire to recreate the trace. Put everything back together again, turned it on and.......Hurry!  everything works as intended.  

BTW, I have the black epoxyed Samsung drive.  So there you have it, 5 points + 2 optionals.

hi Pierre, good job on getting everything working.  Where did you solder the B point? to the back of the board in one of the corners I assume?  Did you use 30 gauge wire for every point? and for point I, did you try to scrape the trace to expose the copper or did you just solder to the point?

Yes, I did solder the point B to the back of the board in the corner (the one on the picture of the team underdog site).  I just scraped a bit of varnish, or whatever it was, to expose the copper and soldered it there. I ran the wire through the square hole to the chip.  Yes again, all my wires were 30 gauge,  As for point I, this is where it became interesting.  I tried to scrape the varnish around the hole but could not get a clean surface of copper. I went a bit overboard and I cut the trace right next to the hole.  If I was to do it again I would not care about the hole but would just scrape the trace and solder it there.  Anywhere on the trace would work.

Where did you put the actual mpodchip?  Did you just tape it to the DVD board?

I just put it on top of the big chip to the left of the board with the connections (except the ground and +5 V) facing the square hole.  It sits there very well.  I kept it in place with a little piece of black electric tape.

Any advice on removing the glue around the firmware chip?

The original diagram was much easier. No need to remove the epoxy. All you had to do is scrape the trace with a sharp exacto and solder the 30 awg wire. Simple.

I did like Pierrre did. Didn't bother with the network and Led options. If I don't want to go on LIVE...I pull the network cable.

I too had questions about the B contact but once you open your drive...you will see it there. I didn't bother waiting for team underdog to reply to my emails I sent them, otherwise my chip would still be in the anti static bag. You are better off connecting the B wire.

One more thing...If you are going to test your machine before putting back together. I suggest to screw back the small black screws. Those screws are for the heat sinks. The 360 heats up so much, in so little time that you will get 2 red blinking lights. So don't have a nervous breakdown when you see those 2 red lights like I did. Screw the screws back and test the bad boy!

Solder point B is necessary as it puts the NME-360 into "Samsung" mode.
