You will have to get a hot air gun, you can get one on ebay for $18.

I was poking around and found this site that backs jasco up as a remover. http://www.dymax.com...ector_guide.pdf
(search for "jasco" in the pdf)

I have not tried this myself, but it is very interesting.

If you just get the epoxy a little warmer on each attempt, it is unlikely that you are going to hurt something.
How much does the jasco stuff cost?

I don't agree with your "cleaning it up is hell" statement. I put just a small amount -enough to cover the pin that I wanted and just a little extra (about a good size drop of water) on my exacto knife. When I was scraping it off I invadvertently pushed some on the pins to the left of Point A. So when I used my paper towel to clean it off some of the coating rubbed off on the other pins. Again No big deal, as I had exposed and accessible Point A. Clean up was super easy (again don't put a ton of it on like Rippster says).  Heat Kills if you do it wrong - I have killed things in the past by not doing heat management properly (polite way of saying I burned it up with the heat gun :-). Obviously you will do what you feel comfortable, but since I found alternative verification on what Rippster said I felt very safe in attempting. As I already said it worked 100% perfect for me. Just don't go crazy with the stuff.

This is exactly what i was thinking, just didnt know what brand would be safe.

Now that i know i need this JASCO one, does any one know a cheap UK Supplier of it? do places like B&Q or Homebase do it? What are the active chems in it, and what other brands contain this?

Or better still, would any one in america beable to buy me one and air mail it over, costs covered of course..?

Thanks guys

Jasco is the real deal... picked up from lowes for 6 bucks, I had all the epoxy removed with clean and shiny contacts in under and hour.  Bump!

Used guitar pick and patience.

Hi all,

I personally use commonly found paint remover. As long as it says "contains dychlorometayne" your safe to go. Usually I apply a thick layer of paint remover over the area and leave it over night. In the morning the paint remover would all be socked inside the epoxy and I just dust off the stuff (as it would be all crystallized in the morning) using an old tooth brush  tongue.gif  Then I use a blade to remove the epoxy around the pins... dont expect it to brush off like dust but thats the concept anyways.. I'm against the heat gun smile.gif

PS: You can buy dychlorometayne in liquid form but as you might have guessed its liquid and will spill around so its best to use paint remover as its more JELLY style
