Nme Installation Issue
« on: November 12, 2006, 03:33:00 PM »

I was attempting to mod my 360's hitatchi 59dj drive with a team-underdog nme v1.1 chip. For somereason even though all points had good visible joints and there werent any visible crosses or shorts on any other pins or areas i was getting an error 64. After awhile I finally said forget it and desoldered the wires, i still get an error 64. I'm getting worried because I don't want to lose my 360. I know the drives are locked to the xbox and Im not sure how I would go about getting a new drive but hopefully I don't have to. I have done trace repair and much harder solder jobs before so I'm surprised that I had an issue here but it happens. The traces your supposed to sodler to, the extension off the fw chip, seem to lift off the pcb. that happened to the fourth from the left(pin1 on v1.1nme for 59DJ). Didn't seem to cause a problem last night though because I hooked the drive up after my first try with the chip fully off the drive and it booted up fine to the dash so I'm not sure the problem right now. If anyone can see the problem I'd appreciate the help otherwise I'm gonna go back at it later tonight again with my magnifying glass and iron. Another look would be appreciated greatly. Thanks

wow. what soldering iron did you use? use no more than 25 watt and even that is pushing it for this job. if i had a 15 i'd use that.

but yeah..u definately need to find where pin 4 goes to cuz that pad looks horrible from the picture. Ummm..
if u can't get it working, the only thing to get the code would be to remove the firmware chip and get an external chip reader and dump it that way. or send it to someone who has one and can do it for you.

the 360 turned on and booted up to the dash with pin 4 solder pad messed up so i dont think it's an issue. Im using a 30 because the 25 watt i was using would only heat up to right before the tip and radioshack only had the 30 watt soldering gun in stock.  I see a solder cross underneath pins 4 and 5 i think. i'm pretty sure thats the issue.  On pad 4 I'll solder to the pin instead of the solder pad to connect the chip.

Trust me working in stock condition is what im aiming for if I decide to remod it Ill decide after that.  Im going to radioshack soon to see. Hopefully they're still open. If they don't have a finer tip i think i might get a 15 wat t iron

got it back to stock. It really fucked with my head cause I knew i was better at soldering then what the outcome is and im goin man this looks like shit I was much better then this.  Bought a 15 watt iron.  hit the braid in the right spots with a thinner tip and its working now.  I'm conflicted if i s hould just spend my time playing gears of war before my next mod attempt or get right back on the horse. I don't want to put it all back together just to take it apart to mod again.  will airflow be fucked up by having the case open and playing? shouldn't right?
