If I Buy A 360 Today Will I Get A 78 Drive?
« on: November 06, 2006, 06:19:00 AM »

Well,

50 % rougly chance of getting a Samsung drive, and 50 % roughly of getting a Hitachi drive.

Hitachi drives produced after late July/early August are most likely version 0078FK, and I doubt there are any retailers left with consoles made in late July/early August, but someone reported byuing a console made in late September and getting a 59DJ drive, so apparantly some newly made consoles have another drive than 0078FK.

But, you could always buy a used console biggrin.gif

How do you know what FW it is?  I know it's not printed on the box or the label.  I assume you have to open the 360 and connect the drive and read it to find out, is that correct or close?

Just open the 360 up.  Its printed on top of the drive.  Another way is to look at this site http://www.360drives.com/list and match your xbox up with whats listed.
