Nme-360 Backup Troubles.
« Reply #15 on: January 18, 2007, 01:13:00 AM »

I have performed every step outlined in the above post (NME howto), and still receive the 'insert game into an xbox 360' message. This is with the bitsetting set to dvd-rom through IMGburn. Have also tried with xbox backup creator to rip the game and extract the ss.bin, followed by nme-associator to merge the two files, then burning again with IMGburn with no luck. Using Verbatim DVD+R DL discs.

I have the same burner as the thread starter, timmeah ie Samsung SH-W162C. Whilst one other person here has said to use a different burner (AlphaTrion) another has made a backup with a samsung burner, and by changing the booktype setting to NORMAL in IMGburn. So I decided to try this method out, but receive the following message once I click on the burn button:

DeviceIOcontrol (FSCTL_LOCK_VOLUME) Failed!
Device: [3:0:0] TSSTcorp CD/DVDW SH-W162C TS11 (D:) (ATA)
Unable to lock volume for exclusive access
Reason: access is denied

Does anyone know how to fix this? I continued anyway and this time the 'open tray' error occurred on the dashboard

Timmeah, have you been successful yet with your burner?

If anyone has any suggestions it would be greatly appreciated. I feel like I have tried everything I can (now have 7 coasters), however I dont know anyone else with a different dual-layer burner.

^^

I have been using a samsung burner, but finally gave up and bought the pioneer 111d yesterday.

Have tried two burns; one of GRAW with the 1.23 firmware, and PGR3 with the dangerous_brothers 1.23 firmware. Tried both on IMGburn, and both times, I have received the 'insert into an xbox 360 console' message. All file sizes are correct with correct layerbreak info. Using verbatim discs.

Nme-360 Backup Troubles.

timmeah2001,
I think that Your backup/burning procedure is fine and you should focus on the other problem.

I have situation like You,  my Hardware:

- X360 + Samsung drive T28 (bought few weeks ago) + NME chip v 1.1
- DVD Burner NEC 4571A ( the newest firmware 1.02)
- Media DVD+DL Verbatim
- Software: ImgBurn + NME aSSociat0r (NME converter)

Sometimes when i'm trying to run backup game I have the same error screen like you "To Play disc, put it in an Xbox 360 console"
Reason of this is bad detecting by console , backup disc is detecing not as "GAME" disc but as "Play DVD" disc (you can check this if your auto boot setting is off).

Backup disc game is burned correctly but the problem is with the proper switching ON NME chip.
I've found this information on the official NME website:

"04. December 2006

NME-360 v1.2, no competition,  clones and kudos

Many of the clones require manual switching for turning on the chip. They claim that this is more
secure but the real reason why they are doing this is because they don't know what we are looking
for inside of the chip and they can only reproduce the NME-360 outputs.
They also claim that their chip is 100% stable with any kind of media without tweaking the laser.
That's pure BS. This is a hardware matter between the laser and the inserted media and can not be
fixed by patching the firmware in a different way whatsoever...
"

I'm afraid that me and you have the clone NME chip, the official prize for this chip is ~40 Euro I've bought mine for 100 polish zloty's (about 25 Euro).

I'm still looking 100% working solution but I know that many times my media are working by bellow procedure:

1. I'm turning ON my X360 (network cable is plugged on) and I'm login into xbox live service

2. Then i'm starting playing game from xbox live arcade (free trial), just for few minutes (important)

3.Then I'm backing to Xbox Dashboard (Green  big Xbox button and yellow Y button) and I'm able to play games from my backup media disc - all are working for 100%

My NME chip was installed by myself I've spend many hours to find out why backup disc are not working, I've changed soldering points about 5 times (presently I'm using SST chip points), I burned one game (Gears of War PAL) 3 times with 3 other settings but after severeal hours and several posts what I've rode I know that problem is with not-correct Switching ON my NME modchip, maybe you have the same problem?

I am having issues running my backups too on a sony AW-Q170A burner.  I'm wondering if the burner is bad, I'm using Verbatim DVD+R DL discs - I burned at 2x and 2.4x.  Any suggestions?  Can I add some firmware to my burner to help?  Help!

Just wanted to leave a reply, as I was experiencing backups not playing with an NEC DVD burner using Verbatim DVD+R DL media, on a hitachi 360 drive, and had already burned several coasters.  I just followed lazzieboi's post, and bingo, my backups are now playing like a charm.  Thx lazzieboi.
