I searched everywhere to find out how the status LED works with the new NME 1.1 and couldn't find anything about it. So after I installed the chip with the status LED enabled I figured I would explain it to everyone. When you put in a back-up game, the chip turns itself on and the green power LED in the center of the ring of light on your Xbox 360 turns off. That's how you know the chip is on. pin 10 and 11 go to the xbox motherboard not the DVD drive. and are optional.
one turns off the network card (not usb connection) if a backup is inserted. to protect you from live... POSSIBLY..

the other does as this guy said.
