Making Psx Back-ups Using Alcohol 120%
« on: January 30, 2004, 09:47:00 AM »

Ok, I downloaded Alcohol 120% like a lot of people on this board have recommended using for making PS1 back-ups. Problem is, it won't make CUE/BIN files like you guys keep talking about. I go to the Image making wizard, select the type of image I'm making(Playstation) and then when I proceed to the next screen it asks which format I want to save the image file. There are two options...Alcohol's image which is ".mdd?" file and a Clone CD image ".ccd". I don't see any option for ".cue" or ".bin". I'm using the latest version of the software which is 1.48.....any clue as to what I'm not doing right here?  <

Umm, not using the right software? Use CDRWin or Fireburner for making PSX backups.   <

When I tried the software, wether or not you can use the BIN/CUE format is dependant on what options you have selected.
My personal favorite is DDump Frontend, but use what'  you're comfortable with.

Ok.....what settings should I be using to back-up a PS game, in order to get the BIN/CUE format option?

The thing they don't mention is that you don't HAVE to use the bin/cue format. Alcohol 120% does a .img format I believe which works just as well. You reckon there's only the two choices, the .mmd and the .ccd, try the .ccd one that'll probably work.

Just remember people, BIN/CUE is not the only format that works.  <

True but don't you have to have '.bin' and '.cue' files in order to play the back-ups using PCSXbox?  <

No, PCSxbox can play other formats too, not just .BIN and .CUE. Not sure about others but it ran my .IMG fine.  <

Save as clonecd, which outputs a .img file.
The .ccd files is basically a .cue for all purposes.

So then you just pick the .img directly and it should play fine.  <
