Possible New "addon" Idea?
« on: October 02, 2006, 08:04:00 PM »

I thought about this and it would be cool except for the fact that you cannot run any unsigned code on the xbox360 so you  would have to switch between mounted isos with some sort of os that is on said device.  I guess it could work if it had a nice lcd screen or something, but the time to create such a device may be wasted if the machine gets cracked for real.

How about use a PC with a dvd emulator... plug sata from PC mainboard to xbox 360 mainboard. The modified dvd firmware/emulator on pc would mount an iso image and transfer data across sata interface to host xbox 360 just like the real drive.

Or perhaps a modified 360 dvd drive that is connected to a computer and is then translated though some means physically to the main board sata port that the optical 360 device uses.. A combination of hard ware and software, could it be done?

Correct me if im wrong, but wouldn't the sata cable need some hardware device *1, chip-set in order for it to translate the two sata host chip-sets from each other? a Big IF you could run unsigned code from the emulated drive. just doesn't pan out if you ask me.. or make sense...

#1 (ie/ xbox 360 dvd drive <such like> sata chip-set)

Jeremy

P.S. Anyway i like the thought of having a pass though access from the original client device SATA chip-set xbox 360 drive to another. For instance similar to what your suggesting but a drive with access for online-LIVE dvd's and another drive for access to backups and such iso images for the PC.

Why have the game in ISO format?  Why not extract the files and folders - similar to the dvdbackup tools from the original xbox.
