I just finished mine, same DVD drive and NME chip, and it was a huge problem.  But I got it done.  In order to find wires that were small enough, I dismantled an old 50 wire SCSI cable.  Those wires were small enough.  You might also try dismantling an old SATA cable as well.  You need a super-fine solder tip.  I had to borrow one from a friend who had used a Dremel tool to make his tip smaller.  I then used needle-nose pliers to hold the wires still with one hand, after tinning the tips of the wire, and then used the fine-tip solder iron to finish it.

Also, for every other wire I came from the opposite direction when soldering.  This bought me a little wiggle-room when holding the wire and soldering.

Good luck - its a toughie!!

Any suggestions for bricking a drive? I thought i finally got it, so i turned it on by hitting the eject button, instead of going to the dashboard and ejecting the drive, it displayed an error message "E64". so i took off the chip hoping for the best and.............................no drive ejection and it still displays the error message.  futher research on this error code indicated that the dvd drive key is invalid/ or firmware problem.

The next step for me
       1. try to flash drive with xtreme fw
       2. Xtract drive key for new drive

Since drive wont eject, i cant tell if drive is in mode b, is there any other way to get the drive in mode b. i used the slx linux boot cd , my pc will not detect the drive. any suggestions
