A m8 bought this and I borrowed it to try it out, as far as I know You plug in a spare molex from your PC into it, and then plug that into the 360 Drive power, and you can power the drive without having the full Xbox next to your PC, theres also an eject button on the chip as when you have xbox dismantled its tricky to get to the eject button. Also theres another switch that allows you to put the Hitachi Drive in that certain mode it needs to be in to perform firmware flash. I dont know more as I have never had a Hitachi Drive to flash. In the kit box you get something else but cant remember what it is or does. I never used it. Sorry I cant be more help.

I have used this kit for 2 things. 1. To connect the 360 hard drive to the pc and back it up. 2. To connect the 360 dvd drive to the pc and backup and flash the 360 fireware without having to have the 360 dvd drive powered by the 360. Buy it and you will not reget it!

Do I still need extra cables and a SATA motherboard to flash my drive or does this kit solve my problem?

the basic xecuter connectivity kit doesn't come with power Y cable or sata cable you still need that.
we offer them as an addon for only #4.00 when you order the xecuter connectivity kit from our site.
