Time To Mod A New Xbox... Need Help Please

Ok, I hacked my original xbox360 (launch box, and yes still works!) with the dvd firmware upgrade. I know a lot of the new stuff out there doesn't want to work i think because of the whole JTAG, 800, etc. What is better, update the firmware, mod a newer xbox? thoughts or opinions would be great.
