Xilinx Jtag Cable Alternatives
« on: October 03, 2011, 01:52:00 PM »

Hi All,

I was thinking of getting into reset glitching, and wanted to get the Matrix Glitcher. The one thing I would have to get as well is a LPT/USB XilinX JTAG programmer cable, wich, as many of you know, is quite expansive.

Also I'm not confident enough of me understanding the diagram's to make one myself.

There are however cheaper alternatives, but, will those work? The XilinX cable is mentioned specificly, is that just because it's the best quality, or is there something else going on that makes the Matrix Glitcher only work with that one?

Any idea's, suggestions?

Thanks!

Yea I'm currently looking into making / using the LPT programming cable, because it's gonna be easy and affordable, but what do people use as a 3.3V power source?

Two AA batteries in series?  Thanks in advance.

lol no you can use the 3.3v power from the 360 if you need to or i use the 3.3v from my maximus power dongle

btw building a homemade programmer is super easy i even found a nice db25 male to rj45 modular adapter that let me keep it all in a nice case and all i have to do is solder up a stripped CAT5 cable and 3.3v power to the glitcher plug into the adapter and away i go

http://www.frys.com/product/1544923?site=s...CH:MAIN_RSLT_PG

here is the link for the adapter i was talking about

lol one more thing i also build my lpt nand reader/writer with the same type of adapter

Thanks, but I really feel comfartable just buying one, because I really wouldn't know what I was doing.

The question remains though: with USB XilinX JTAG programmer cable they mean this one of $149 right?:

http://www.digilenti...od=XUP-USB-JTAG

But, for using the Matrix Nand Programmer, can't I use this one for $49, fot example?

http://www.digilenti...m?Prod=JTAG-USB

Any ideas?

Thanks!

true you are only reprogramming the pic on the board. You would need a usb cable for dumping the nand for some jaspers (a full dump can be 512MB on some versions)

Cool, thanks guys..

I gather from all the anwsers that it doesn't neccesarliy has to be a Xilink cable, so I'll go ahead and get a cheaper one.

I do in the future want to dump those 512mbs nand, so I'll just go ahead and get an USB one..

You do realise that usb cable will now help/allow you to dump a xbox nand. its just for programming xilinx boards.
You will need a usb spi flasher, there are peeps on here selling them, they are pretty cheap.

This programmer will work for both CPLD and NAND: http://www.ebay.com/itm/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?V...em=270528612875
Dirt cheap. Tutorials can be found here: http://www.tiaowiki.com/w/JTAG_Tutorials

I have a pci paralell board, and i'm after a cable to program the coolrunner ect.. already have a nand-x so it's just a case of a cheap ready made cable.

Anyone know where i could buy one in the uk?  (IMG:style_emoticons/default/beerchug.gif)

Thanks, i don't have the hardware lying about to make one atm, and think i it would be almost as cheap to buy one ready made.

This looks perfect and guess the coolrunner will have the same connection sets as the rest?

EDIT: is this one the same as above, slightly cheaper: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Xilinx-Parallel-...=item2c5e51a621

Yeah that looks like it will work. I've glitched 2 Falcons and 1 Zephyr so far with the aid of my prgrammer, all without any hiccups.
