Well I've been away for a long time and noticed that there seems to be a new protection sceme out (or coming out) called XGD3. Was looking around but can't really find much information on my model drive.

I have an original first day xbox with a flashed Hitachi 46 drive. So far (as of today) I can play all backups perfectly on it. But I saw that this new protection would update firmwares on drives and make backups useless again. Would this affect my drive as well? Would I have to watchout for dashboard updates or game updates to avoid this?

I currently have dashboard 2.0.12625.0. Read somewhere I should update to 2.0.13599 to avoid the firmware update, not sure if I should follow that or not.

Any information you all could give me would be great. Really appreciate it.

Your fine. Hitachi drives don't get flashed.

I was just about to create a thread but glad I saw this one. So I have some additional questions. Like the OP I have a launch day 360 with a 47 hitachi drive.

1) If I go out and buy gears 3 and play it on my patched 47, it would not screw up my system correct?

2) When there is finally a way to rip and burn XGD3 disks onto DL disks, will this require new firmware to be flashed or am I still in good shape since I have the older 47 hitachi drive

Guys,

I also have a 1st day Hitachi 46 and when I updated the dash (located on Gunstringer) it re-flashed my ODD back to stock.
