Problem Flashing With Lpt, Will Infectus Work With Dash 6717?
« on: August 14, 2011, 04:11:00 PM »

Im having real difficulty tying to read the flash of my xenon xbox via LPT, ive read through the other/old threads regarding this.
ive probed the voltages of my lpt while it tries to connect, they are around 2.4, 1.8, and 0.08

Testing LPT device address:0378
Testing LPT device address:0278
Testing LPT device address:03BC
Could not detect a flash controller!
Can not continue

I first tried it with the resistors with diode, no resistors with diode, no resistors and no diode, i used cables from a cat5 cable, still nothing.

Would i be able to use the infectus chip i have to read the flash?
Can someone help me please. Thanks

no you can use a usb spi nandreader. These can be bought and are much more reliable. the LPT method i used in november 09. lol. I did have to rewrite bad blocks though using that method. It was a real headache. i wasn't sure how memory architecture really worked then.  I used a program called ," Degraded " to help me indentify bad blocks. I used total commander to solve the problems that were affecting my box.

But, I think you can use Flash360 to move bad blocks. Not sure. I never had to do it that way.

Edit: I just knowticed that you said you could not detect flash controller. Make sure you have the LPT grounded.

If you do run into bad blocks, then use the method i suggested in my above post. And read alot about moving bad blocks. Btw, to fix bad blocks you have to use nandpro. I suggest that total commander is used to fix...when it is not. TOtal commander is just a hex comparison tool. I used it to compare my nand dumps.

i dont know if i have any bad blocks yet.
i need to be able to read the flash to know that..... so far i have also checked that both of the boards are connected with ground.

i dont realy want to spend £30 on a nand-x that i will use once or twice.
as i have a Infectus 2, do they work to dump, and flash xboxes with dash 6717, or not?  (IMG:style_emoticons/default/uhh.gif)
and if so, will this tutorial work http://beta.ivc.no/wiki/index.php/Xbox_360_Infectus

please help.

i believe you can. But I don't know how you would get the keyvault and get the config. If you follow the Nandpro documents you can get those two pieces of info. Some way you'll need to get the kv and config from the dump. I think you could theoretically dump the nand using the infectus then running through hexeditor. Pulling the data from 0x1DE(config) and from  0x00-0x20 bytes for the keyvault. then plugging that n to 360flashtool too rebuild the nand. You need your cpukey too. \\

Because the infectus uses its own flash programmer, I don't know how to extract the kv and config. I think it just does the whole nand from begining to end.

non detection of flash controller means your soldering is bad, or something is shorting out.

the resistors and diode are required, you are wasting your time trying it without them.

cable length is also critical, your cable should be no longer than 20cm. Mine is 10cm.

check all points. solder the diode direct to the mobo, not to the LPT port on the PC. check your diode orientation, the black end should be connected to the motherboard. if its the wrong way round you will not get the flash controller detected.

i use LPT for each JTAG i do, it works no problems, so dont bash it just coz its a slower connection. when done correctly it works 100%. USB's only advantage is read/write speed.

once you have the nand dumped, you use 360flashtool 0.97 to grab the keyvault and config files and all other files required for fbbuild (sounds as if you are trying to build an XBR image which is way outdated-forget it.). read the fbbuild readme for all required files.

360flashtool does not allow you to move bad blocks, it will only identify them for you. you must either use nandpro to move the blocks, or coolshrimps jtagtool makes the process a bit easier (but i hate point and click apps TBH)

in fact, the latest fbbuild 0.32 allows you to provide the nand dump labelled nanddump.bin, and it will automatically extract all required files and also remap any bad blocks in the new image should your original dump have any.

deilzfcjk you need to read up on this subject before you give out any more advice to people, you seem to be a bit confused on this subject yourself.

nandpro can handle reading/writing over LPT/USB, and it also can work on virtual files ie remapping blocks in dumps on the PC.

degraded is only used for identifying bad blocks. you need to hex edit the first line of the nand dump to read 2004-2005 else the image wont load.

360flashtool allows you to edit/modify/extract nand images. it does not manage bad blocks.

Who the hell are you? The guy with like 4000 posts on XBH. Most of your posts are pointless. Lol. You basically said what I said. But, then again you're a newb here. Stop smoking whatever you smoke. Bro.

I never said 360 Flash Tool moves bad blocks.

Plus the way he's setting it up....I think he can get bad blocks. It happened to me a few installs I did for local customers. Once I got the 360 Nand Flasher. THose problems went away for me.

So, I was warning him ahead.

whatever it s late...i gotta get to bed. Gazc0igne welcome to X-S.
